Watching Bridge of Spies for the first time. That’s a pretty pithy film right now. I love the notion of America. It’s not the best country in the world by miles, but it still has more potential than most. Trump shitting on their Constitution makes him Un-American. That’s yer attack line. Hit him!

Been enjoying yon Tires on Netflix. First series was so-so, but the new one is very funny. Steve Gerben plays a great straight-man for all the bastards around him to play off.

Jon Lovitz showing up in Tires to deliver “My lumbar. My lumbar.” inimitably really tickled me. Thought the first series was just okay, it improved as it went on, but the second seems very enjoyable so far.

Just catching up on the Xbox showcase and I have Opinions. Ninja Gaiden 4 looks so bland and on-rails. Like a Devil May Cry game. Not for me. New handheld Xbox: I’m saving up for the best spec version. Was going to get a SteamDeck, but this will also run Steam and my huge Xbox collection. Nice!

Well, Pulp were fucking excellent tonight. What a show. Beaming from ear to ear throughout.

Still watching the BBC Lockerbie thing. This Guardian review is hilarious, because the guy completely fucking misses the point. It’s not a drama, soft lad, it’s a PROCEDURAL. The whole point is showing you how the case was broken. Rich parents, I assume. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

Started watching the BBC Lockerbie thing last night. It’s very well made, great script and direction. Kept thinking the soundtrack sounded like a stripped back Mogwai. Felt brave for the BBC to have that. Checked there. It’s Mogwai! Well done, great work.

Started watching Homicide: Life on the Streets while I was getting my treatment today. Excellent to see John Polito, as always. So now I’ve stuck on Miller’s Crossing. Again. I’ll never tire of this film.

Got the Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy on sale and been really enjoying them. Finished the first one last night, now on Rise. They hold up really well and there’s something “sticky” about it. Emergent mechanics, secrets, decent story.

Watching the 2009 Star Trek. It’s a fun film, turn-your-brain-off fare. But it’s also utter bollocks and terrible sci-fi. Full of unexplained MacGuffins and frankly insulting logic. “I would save Romulus. I was en-route. Then the unthinkable happened. Romulus blew up. Whoops. Too slow, lol!”

See Kneecap have been removed fro #TRNSMT Fucking Tansmit, more like. Fuck ‘em, don’t let the bastards win.

Here, Celtic, gaunnae get some good signings in early this year. Team sorely needs a refresh, there are players getting games who are miles off it and we’re backsliding. If we don’t qualify for the CL, hell skelp it into you.

Bunged on Coriolanus to forget my sorrow at the Scottish Cup final. Low key banger of a film. Easy to forget that Shakespeare had BARS.

Have started playing Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist on the new GamePass retro thing. This is hilarious. Never heard of it before today, probably because I never had a format that would run it. Giving me Monkey Island vibes and every bit as funny. Like if Leisure Suit Larry wasn’t shite.

Here, why are the incels being dickheads to Bella Ramsey? I didn’t get a Playstation and we’ve only just started The Last of Us recently, but she’s been great in every scene. Is it some wee-guy oddball shit? Fuck up, ya wee tadgers.

Watching Star Trek VI. The Excelsior has been jostled and blown all over the shop by the exploding Klingon moon Praxis. Sulu tells his comms officer to contact Klingon high command. It’s very fraught. The officer flashes him this expression. She’s totally thinking “that’s just bad Praxis.”

Think Elliott Smith’s my top lad. It’s Elliott, Nirvana and Joni for me. Not enough people note that Elliott Smith had some fun and feel-good bops. open.spotify.com/track/0r4PPD...

Huge shout out to Elizabeth Dulau playing Kleya in Andor. She’s one to watch. Imagine getting basically flung in to playing next to Stellan Skarsgård. And she owned the screen just like him.

There’s a lot I love about Andor, it’s incredible. But my favourite thing is Andor thinking he’s lucky while constantly showing that he’s also very, extremely observant.

First impressions of Doom: The Dark Ages is that it’s a lot of fun. And pretty daft, but that’s no bad thing. Only played a wee bit of Doom Eternal. Felt like 2016 Doom had a great story that didn’t really translate to Eternal. Maybe I’ll give it another go.

Once worked with a guy who had this involuntary facial tic that, if he yawned (and he was a melodramatic over-yawner), caused him to give an almost conspiratorial wink at the end of the yawn. I’m genuinely amazed he never got hauled up by HR for “inviting” people to bed with him.

Trying to decide what to watch tonight and I just know this clip will come in handy at some point soon.

Wat

Watching Raiders. Indy and Saleh are both strong as fuck. Ford lobbing kids into the van like they’re bricks, that massive stone top and then the gold Ark, just the two of them. Coupla radical dudes.

Having a ton of fun with the Oblivion remaster. Glad I never really played it much first time around despite having owned it (and sold it) many moons ago.

It’s good to check in with how increasingly fucked America is, but this “quiz” treated me like an idiot and made me feel some enmity towards The Guardian, a publication that can still do some good in these through-the-looking-glass times. Boak.

Okay, this is a Disney+ hate account now. I got 51 seconds into a video and hardlocked myself because I wanted to see who plays Mon Mothma.

Got Four Lions on the go. There aren’t many comedies as dark, funny and pointed as that. It’s a very quotable masterpiece.

The Pharaohs were in the ra.

Finally getting around to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. What a game. Absolutely love the feeling of exploration and discovery, and it really feels like a (great) Indiana Jones film. Soundtrack amazing, too.

Disney+ sucks so hard that it’s making me want to steal Andor. If I’m paying for something and not getting a stable service, it’s not theft, right?

I don’t think RJ Mitte gets enough flowers for his acting in Breaking Bad. Fantastic ensemble cast, true, but I’m watching the scene near the end where Walt (manipulatively) tells him his cancer has returned. Mitte’s reaction is perfect “trying not to show I’m freaking out inside.”

I loved Prey, but the Predator Badlands teaser makes me think it might not be for me. Seems like an overreach. Would be very happy to be proved wrong, so I’ll give it a chance.
