The reason Ukraine didn’t inform the White House about the drone sneak attack is the same reason they didn’t inform the Kremlin about the drone sneak attack.

happy pride month!

Fantasy fiction taught me that wizards would mine the world hollow in a relentless quest for power. It did not teach me how many so-called "wizards" would mindlessly destroy themselves believing their magic would just FIX EVERYTHING while selling other wizards on a thaumaturgical house of cards.

The Democrats' 2025 platform is here!

I feel guilty that I, once a huge Doctor Who fan, never have watched either the black Doctor Who nor the female Doctor Who after years of demanding both... But Doctor Who moved away from being a science-fiction show to more of an encoded fairy tale with electronics, which doesn't interest me. Boo.

WIFE: What's wrong? ME: (turns over) WIFE: Talk to me. You're upset. Tell me why. ME: (big inhale) Bluesky is getting less "unique daily likers". WIFE: Oh honey. Put it out of your mind and try to get some rest. Big day for you tomorrow with the government scheduled to destroy you like a feral dog.

I see a lot of people blaming the comics industry for the 6-figure debt that Peter David’s medical struggle put him into. But please, please don’t forget to blame the United States, where not having affordable health care is a personal failing not a community issue.

Didn't we do this with NFTs?

When I am elected God, I will write these words in five-mile-wide fiery text to blaze their truth over every city, town, and hamlet in the world: "THAT ARTIST DIDN'T MAKE THAT ART TO PLEASE YOU, AND THAT IS AS IT SHOULD BE"

If I was your President/dictator, I would have a law that forced every news columnist and commentator to submit their work to a third-party service that would keep track of what they've said and give them an "accurate predictions" score. This would be displayed next to their name at all times.

It's weird watching the end of American dominance brought to us by people who are absolutely promising this will make America great again... If only because we watched Britain tank in the exact same way, for the same reasons, by the same idiot class of people

"House Republicans narrowly pass Trump's agenda megabill" Well, there goes America. The good news is: this should completely shatter the U.S. economy and cause every other nation to look elsewhere for stability, business and growth. Oh...sorry. I meant good news for the rest of the world.

"The only thing that magic dependably works on is the party performing it. It does not work directly on the world, but rather can transform the individual into someone who can work directly on the world." - Alan Moore

hey, person with chronic conditions that qualify me for covid vaccines here, please feel free to lie through your teeth about having any of these to get vaccinated, it is literally prosocial behavior to do so

We missed SUCH an opportunity to make this woman President.

If they do some sort of Kickstarter thing for this plan to "Buy up the URL for defunct local newspapers and flood them with anti-GOP articles..."

Buddy I think "This content that ended up printed in our newspaper was not approved by anyone in our newspaper" raises more questions than the one you're trying to avoid answering!!!1!

My local poly-family is idly considering a trip to Vegas to watch the next Battlebots fight. Which would be a lot easier if these things had firm schedules. (Runner-up possibility: The Norwalk Robot Combat League, which is weird that my hometown has become a major bot-fighting center)

And as a side note: Even if you DO enjoy writing, maybe the other aspects of being a PROFESSIONAL writer are not for you. Rejection. Obscurity. Bad reviews. There's a lot of psychological beatings in trying to sell your stories to the public... and if you'd rather not bother, good for you.

Also reminder to romance authors that we only shoot ourselves in the foot if we try to play the "but we're not porn" game. Those of us who write hot/queer already get clipped on a regular basis, but nothing is "respectable" enough. Your turn WILL come.

Really glad that when Trump was asked once or twice pre-election about Project 2025 and its dystopian goals, the press took him at his word that he had nothing to do with it and didn’t focus reporting on what a 2nd term would actually look like & what the consequences would be.

The fact that the new Superman is infuriating Zac Snyder fans is enough to get me to buy a ticket

I keep making this point to people who don't work with AI and understand the code; one of the fundamental problems with genAI models is you can't fix bugs. That's an absolute dealbreaker for almost all use cases. All you can do is throw training at it or add filters at the end.

"They'll never cut Social Security" is the new "they'll never overturn Roe v Wade."

I like volunteering at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank because it shows just how immense even a single-town operation can be. I spent my entire shift picking individual grapes off of stems so kids could have five grapes with their lunch. And we did not finish all the grapes.

"He says he doesn't believe people should get medical advice from him." My brother in Christ, YOU ARE THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH If you don't believe you should be giving medical advice, you shouldn't have taken the job

I have three types of TTRPG characters. * Dude who tries to talk himself out of every situation * Dude who is terrible at everything except the world-class skill he's a master of * Dude who is intended to be a fun goofy character but actually snaps the game in half

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Stopping anthropogenic climate change is terraforming on "easy" mode. Until we can sort out global warming we have no business considering terraforming Mars.

The irony is that I'm using AI to give me explanations for computer questions that I would have Googled before, but only because Google's search function has degraded to the point of marginal use.

I dislike the current social media economy where the amount given to your fundraiser has a direct correlation to the number of people you have attracted as friends "Being clever enough to perform online" shouldn't be the baseline for deciding if you can get housing when your home burns down

There was an old tweet that stuck with me: "If you can easily walk to the coffee shop but your barista has a one hour commute, you don't live in a walkable 15 minute city; you live in a theme park"

It's hard to adequately describe how scary it is to watch mainstream political journalists barely push back against a sitting U.S. president accepting a $400M plane from a foreign government that would literally be designated as an emergency command-and-control center during a nuclear war.

A GUIDE TO UNCOMFORTABLY LATE-IN-LIFE REALIZATIONS: Step 1: Realize you're probably on the spectrum Step 2: Ask, "Is *that* why I had all those problems back then? Because I'm neurodivergent?" Step 3: Repeat Step 2 until death's merciful embrace takes you

Watchmaker videos are oddly soothing. There's something about a guy with a calm Mister Rogers voice contentedly doing a finicky task that would drive me to strangle puppies.

It now appears that where we're going to end up on tariffs is that they will be high enough to cause serious price increases for consumers, but not high or targeted enough to spur meaningful reshoring of manufacturing. A perfect lose-lose for everyone.

What George Lucas got right about the original trilogy, but has never managed to replicate since, is that I was a little kid when those came out

Grand Theft Auto is like Dungeons and Dragons for me: I know it's what the average person thinks of when they think of video/roleplaying games, but it's never clicked for me and as such it's annoying that it's become the societal default

Zzzz...

Babe, wake up, new pope just dropped

Hint: Government isn't THAT much more inefficient than the free market, it's just that when Coca-Cola blows millions on inefficiency, nobody cares but Coke executives
