That last clause, applied generally, is the key question of epistemology. There were similar concerns in the late 90s about google. We were told to use Encarta, not Wikipedia. "Selective curation" is just filtering. Filtering is important, and you have to trust someone; it's hard to know who.

It doesn't take a deep intelligence to use appropriate secure communications (SCIF, etc). It takes a small desire to follow the rules. They don't follow the rules because they have never had negative consequences from not following the rules.
