Has an eerie "Tiananmen Square" feel to it, doesn't it?

'In announcing Abrego Garcia’s return Attorney General Pam Bondi called him “a smuggler of humans and children and women”[...]' Apparently to Pam Bondi, women and children aren't humans. globalnews.ca/news/1121830...

"The border is the world's largest one way mirror - Canadians look down and see the US but Americans look up and just see themselves." That's bloody awesome and SO accurate.

To put this in perspective: CBSA completed 2,600 drug-related seizures over the last month. 67.5% were drugs inbound from the US. 17.5% were drugs outbound to the US. 116 of those were fentanyl - 1.44 KILOGRAMS (3.17 lbs). Yep we're flooding the US with fentanyl. www.ctvnews.ca/canada/artic...

Look, we're not going to Bellingham because we're afraid of being stopped, searched and possibly sent back or even detained. The US gov has been stopping people en masse heading north just before they would enter Canada and search their cars. Fix that first. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Thought for the day: If Alberta separates, how exactly does it plan to move oil to the coast? Every pipeline goes through Canada. So only send oil to the US? I know Smith has some harebrained idea that Alberta has a right to a strip of northern BC, but no, it doesn't. BC was here first.

I'm listening to several Trump operatives being questioned in a senate review and there's a trend... No matter how simple the question, ignore it and give a mostly unrelated answer. Then launch in a long pedantic tirade. Then end by insulting the person asking the question. And never stop talking.

"Look... Millennials had to use acoustic modems to connect to the Internet..." *remembers not so fondly of using 300bps acoustic modems on dial phones to talk to BBSes long distance (when we still had long distance) in the 1980s* Keeds.

I don’t mean to question the microeconomics of it because I’m not a highly successful businessman like Trump, but shouldn’t the pardons cost more than the US citizenship cards?

So... you're writing an article about Trump's tariffs against the EU probably not happening.... What to use as the photo? Eiffel Tower? Colosseum? A photo of Berlin? Oh lord no... All totally irrelevant... I know, let's go with...

Life with Amazon: "You're the next stop." Driver goes somewhere else "You're the next stop." Driver goes somewhere else "You're the next stop." Driver goes somewhere else and stays for 1/2 an hour, having dinner apparently "The driver has a new more deliveries to make on the way to your address."

Pity - "The Last Algorithm" by Andy Weir sounds like it would be a good read. The premise would be "Data scientists accidentally discover God in the math of the universe..." Kind of a callback to the last chapter of Sagan's "Contact". :) arstechnica.com/ai/2025/05/c...

Bad journalism: "A bunch of people have a feeling/opinion about something." REALLY bad journalism: "A bunch of people have a feeling/opinion about something. Try Linux." Good journalism: "We tested their opinion and confirmed/denied it as factual." 1/2

I am pleased to announce that I have refactored this program so thoroughly that I can no longer understand how it works. Take THAT Github Copilot.

The only thing worse than the state bullying the press... Is the press giving up. (And no, I'm not talking about McMahon or Cheeks - I'm talking about Paramount Global.) When fascism take foot in a country, the press is the first victim, usually by its own hands. www.cbc.ca/news/enterta...

Today and every day we celebrate the power of LGBTIQA+ communities in striving for a more just world for everyone. #IDAHOBIT

Weird... I could have *sworn* he said China was paying the tariffs... apparently he wants Walmart to... /s

So.. are we really that surprised that a person who killed her dog because it wasn't useful to her anymore might come up with something this psychopathic? tribune.net.ph/2025/05/16/c...

This is good news. Hudson's Bay will be Canadian again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA-F...

Not sure which link John meant but try this. freedom.press/newsletters/

No one who cares about wildlife and ecosystems is now likely to vote Labour in 2029. Or about Gaza. Or poverty. Or inequality. Or international aid. Or corporate power. Or democratic reform. Or racism. Or trans rights. So that's goodbye to just about its entire vote. What are they playing at?

Because they're wildly overpriced and you're buying a concrete box in the sky that forces you to deal with random nutjobs with no real way out if it all goes down hill, not to mention external rules from a non-gov agency? www.cbc.ca/news/busines...

I've decided that my response to everything people tell me from now on will be "I need more context." I have many friends who just dump a sentence on me with no lead in of any kind. "Should I tell my cat it may be a Martian?" "It's possible to weld plastic." Ok... err... context?

So I'm updating an app I wrote for a friend's comic shop and I not only do not remember writing this, I'm not entirely sure how I figured out how to make this work... and the code just sucks... It looks like it was rushed together and never cleaned up... and some of it just BAD... Much better now.

Whew... Chrystia Freeland is still a minister in Carney's new cabinet. It had been reported earlier that she has been dropped. Losing her would be a big loss - hopefully she can regain deputy PM duties as well.
