Good morning! I've started a new series on the craft of writing, using John Boorman's EXCALIBUR (1981) to walk you through the concepts found in John Truby's Anatomy of Story. The first post is free to read + includes a spreadsheet for writing your own stories: www.patreon.com/posts/130659...

its very important to live in a city where going outside means saying yes to avian pvp

Watching the Pee Wee Herman doc on HBO Max. Filmgoers in 1985 had it good

the only strong contender here is the water tower shooter in Larry Cohen’s GOD TOLD ME TO who says “I'll be 22 the seventh of July.” Today, this guy could only JUST buy a beer.

fyi, for any cis folks w/ cash to burn who want to state their support for trans kids, teens, and adults in no uncertain terms, Transfigure Print Co. are good folks making really cool shit. transfigureprintco.com

Ebenezer Scrooge bursting out of his window to ask a passing child to buy him a Christmas goose but it’s me leaning out of my Kia Soul to beg a mother of three to push the pedestrian call button so I can turn left on a busy street

With THE LONG WALK and THE RUNNING MAN getting movies in 2025, this felt like the exact discovery I needed. PUNISHMENT PARK needs a 4K restoration/collector's edition. This is important cinema that still plays as brutal today as it did over half a century ago. 📽️🎬

I voted early and am going to spend the day manifesting 🕯 🕯 🕯 🕯 poilievre 🕯 looses his seat 🕯 & gets IBS 🕯 🕯 🕯 🕯

“It’s amazing that others in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy with $320 million and RFK Jr, very fast.” — Seth Rogen’s censored remarks presenting the Breakthrough Prize

One of the most controversial movies ever made is quietly streaming for free on Tubi in Canada & US: 1971’s PUNISHMENT PARK. A film crew watches as detained civil rights and antiwar activists are given a choice: time in federal prison … or being hunted for sport by cops in a barren wasteland.

I outline why police union president Ralph Kaisers is such a controversial candidate for ABC to choose for Vancouver's upcoming byelection, starting with his alleged role in the investigation of the death of Myles Gray... #vanpoli thetyee.ca/News/2025/03...

In which I float the big-brained idea that Hitchcock’s ROPE was shot from the perspective of David Kentley’s pissed-off ghost. www.dreadcentral.com/editorials/5...

From 'Rope' to 'In A Violent Nature', these are 10 films to watch if you loved Steven Soderbergh's 'Presence'. Read Meg Shields' (@theworstnun.bsky.social) full list on Dread Central.

I recommend Common Side Effects on adult swim / Max. Comic thriller about medicine & capitalism. Mike Judge voices an exhausted pharma CEO, which is funny because it's like evil Hank Hill. Good show even if you're not into animation (though you should be, what's wrong with you, person I invented?)

holy hell DISEMBODIED is the real deal. A 16mm passion project from the late 90s that feels like someone put Under the Skin and Brain Damage in a blender. I haven’t felt this kind of energy outside the first Evil Dead. Good on @bleedingskull.bsky.social for doing the lord’s work with this release.

Great article about the absolutely underrated classic slasher & religious horror movie Alice, Sweet Alice, that also contains my favorite mask in Horror cinema.

who could have foreseen that something called “operation barrage” would be this violent and inhumane oh wait a second

Confounding: The air of normalcy with which so much of US media reports on the dismantling of US democracy and Western alliances.

Feeling tired and low, despairing at the world, and this blessing hit my feed. Here it is for anyone else who might benefit from an uninvited otter. Which reminds me, I must send a formal dinner invitation to the local otters.

I'm not going to watch that clip of Rubio in Canada but everytime I see him he looks like the most defeated person on the planet.
