fairy cakes and cupcakes are different things though - fairy cakes are smaller, usually lighter bodied and have less icing (and yes this is one of my old man yells at cloud thing)

awesome! another great feature of the lying plagiarism machines www.theguardian.com/environment/...

my absolute favourite genre of entertainment journalism is "actor open to acting for money" bonus points if its from an actor who hasn't been paid to act in a while being asked if they would be open to returning to the role that they used to get paid to act

but also what isnt being taught, thats the question the BBC should be asking, what are these offensive ideas that students so desperately need to hear?

Our Forum "Visions of the Planet" is now published in Diplomatic History (49.3) - and you can find all articles in one place: academic.oup.com/dh/issue/49/3

students should be challenged but if youre setting out to offend yout students then youre an asshole and if you cant present 'offensive' material without being offensive then youre also shit at your job

the younger generations need to discover the sacred texts

Late night, Meta HQ, Zuckerberg sips a glass of $500 Japanese whisky: "I just want to get back to where it all began, to the original dream: establishing once and for all which Harvard girls were hottest."

Massive triumph for the UK on the European research grants front - especially in Humanities and Social Sciences. Don't cut us off at the knees - give us more backing and we'll bring home the cash!

funny how the lesson we can learn is always 'low regulation' and never 80% of residents live in subsidized public housing on.ft.com/3G1We7i

Not the most pressing problem right now, but the Kellog-Briand Pact Centenary celebrations in 2028 are going to be really awkward.

met a neuroscientist who trained an LLM on thousands of parables and was stunned by its capacity to interpret. no human could have done it, they said. a lot of ai amazement is people brushing against the humanities, being unable to imagine the scope of our work, the time it takes, the skills we have

Our convenor, @lauragraham86.bsky.social, and @lawandsexuality.bsky.social are co-editing a Concise Encyclopaedia of Gender, Sexuality and Law. Laura and Chris are seeking additional suggestions of entries to the encyclopaedia. See attached poster for full details and get in touch if interested.

We are so excited to be kicking off our PG/ECR development day at @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social ! We cannot wait to see you and speak with you all today! 🎉

yes great thread - the primary source thing was a change coming to law - so much discussion of what treaty drafters meant without drawing on archival material and in space law as @crisveijk.bsky.social points out in his excellent recent article we have the archival material to draw on!

yes, if you declare that most work of history isnt worth reading then why should anyone read your work, why does it make the cut? shouldnt i get an LLM to summerize a stolen copy?

'Despite criticism, the REF team confirmed on 12 June that researchers will be fully split from their outputs in REF 2029, with the exception of long-form outputs such as books. It seemingly ended any possibility that journal papers and other outputs would be...portable in the next...exercise.' 1/2

"history buff" is telling a lot here...

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Space law is a thing, oh and someone probably has written on this before you just need to do a better lit review (cough cough AC Grayling...)

The terminally online mind cannot comprehend this

I really need academic AI discourse to move on from "guess we're back to in-person and/or oral exams"; not because the logistics are unworkable in modern day HE in most places, but because I refuse to accept a version of HE where EVERYTHING we do can be measured by a timed in-person assessment.

always enjoy how its the students who were least engaged with the actual module who complain the loudest about their marks

Take a look at where the exciting work is going on at academia's fascinating boundaries: Durham and UCL, yes, but also Salford, UEA, Essex and Hull. Don't throw it all away. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

Relatedly, we don't talk enough about how Fairfuel UK brag about keeping £200bn from the UK Treasury at a time public services are underfunded

Agree with Kevin. I think there’s a big chunk of the UK right now- and certainly all of the bits which control institutions- that are in complete denial a) about our ageing population and b) what the policy implications of the political choices they made 2010 to 2024 and indeed since *are*.

i mean yeah companies are damned if they do and damned if they dont - particuarly as im increasingly getting these from companies that ive got no real understanding of why theyve got my data in the first place! www.bbc.com/news/article...

like i know trump wants to party like its 1890 but that doesnt mean we should be both sidering fucking germ theory! bad enough when you do this with climate but this is journalistic malpractice of the highest order
