When Tim Walz became Kamala Harris's running mate, progressives highlighted policies passed. It could not have been possible without Melissa Hortman. -Free school breakfast and lunch -Restoring voting rights for felons -Paid leave Great piece by @gracepanetta.bsky.social 19thnews.org/2025/06/rep-...

Reminder: You don't actually need to even throw a brick at cops for cops to say you threw a brick at them

You know what goes hand-in-hand with violent crackdowns? Gaslighting. They will beat you and tell you that you are crazy for saying that you just got beaten. Propaganda is not free speech; it's what authorities use to mask their violence. It is, in fact, part of the violence.

Teen cousins on their way to a family birthday in Las Vegas were detained near an ICE protest—targeted for simply “looking illegal.” “We're minors just trying to go home,” one told an officer. “Doesn't matter, you guys are illegal,” he replied. They left with bloody legs, bruised arms, faces.

It’s not just that they normalize political violence. They also accuse the left of engaging in mostly imaginary violence, which gives unhinged right-wingers justification to “retaliate.”

Jesus. The juxtaposition of these two posts back to back is just...

So this week we’ve had a man impersonating an ICE agent tie up a woman and steal $1000; a man impersonating a police officer assassinate a top Democratic politician & her husband (and shoot another Democrat & his wife); and a man impersonating a king hold a military parade for his birthday

You know it’s interesting, I grew up in a neighborhood that had gangs and these federal agents are much more openly intimidating and violent than anything I saw or even heard of growing up

Fascists will use violence when and where they please with zero provocation. It’s really clear you don’t understand this. They will use violence no matter what you do they do not need pretext. Fascisms core is violence because they see it as a sacred ritual. Nonviolence alone will not stop a fascists

ICE is going to parks in Los Angeles and kidnapping nannies who are caring for small children The children are witnessing these kidnappings and being held in custody until their parents are contacted Women and children in parks

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command" - 1984

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.

Las Vegas police immediately arrest two livestreamers when one of them insults an officer after an anti-ICE protest ("honor your oath, bitch"). "You need to learn there's rules: don't run your mouth at me."

oh wow you’re against violent protests yeah cool quick question who did you see being violent at protests for example did you see anyone firing any weapons or maybe hitting people with cars or using chemical weapons or beating people and dragging them away into unmarked vans is that what you mean

5 years ago, Virginia Democrats gave bonuses to the cops that assaulted me and two other Virginia legislators. Fascism grows when it crosses a line and its opposition doesn't stop it. Democrats, the time to stop this with words was 5 years ago and you failed. The time to stop it by force is now.

“US Regime Deploys Troops, Arrests Citizens, and Detains Opposition Amid Mass Pro-Democracy Protests” What if we wrote about events in Trump’s America in the way that Western media describe African and Middle Eastern countries? Brilliant stuff, from @premthakker.bsky.social

This is insane

NEW: A Biden-appointed judge sided with the Trump admin's last-minute argument to *DENY* Mahmoud Khalil's release. Trump admin argued he could be detained for a frivolous charge they gave him *after* his arrest. The judge agreed. Khalil will spend his first Father's Day away from his newborn boy.

These are the literal secret police, the Stasi of Republican America. Masked affiliates of the government who do not identify themselves, kidnap people from the streets, and hold them at secret locations: that is the definition of a secret police. ICE is functioning as the Stasi, as the Gestapo.

This is the unpermitted ICE facility where Mayor Baraka was arrested. The conditions are reportedly horrible; overcrowding, limited food, scalding showers, and family visits cancelled with no warning. This is one result of ICE caring more about quotas than detention conditions.

If someone can be convinced that ethnic cleansing is okay by seeing a foreign flag in a protest picture, they were never going to help resist ethnic cleansing. I feel like this should be a much easier concept to grasp than it apparently is for some people.

It is actually nuts that even when the NYC political establishment was presented with a broad field of talented candidates w/ many ideas, in a time of generational change & anti-corruption, they STILL chose to line up behind scandal-ridden Andrew Cuomo. It’s cowardice.

In Donald Trump's America, if you say "I am Senator Alex Padilla, I have questions for the Secretary," you get thrown to the floor and handcuffed.

This is insane and also I hope that seeing a US fucking senator thrown to the ground and cuffed for asking a question will help some of the people who still aren’t getting it to recognize that THE POLICE ARE THE SOURCE OF THE VIOLENCE

I swear in about six months time the civility centrists are going to be both-sidesing some version of Kristallnacht.

The “immigrants are violent” rhetoric is BIPARTISAN ‘Gov. Kathy Hochul’s statement to a congressional committee on Thursday will tout what she contends is New York’s commitment to assisting U.S. immigration and Border Patrol agencies in “cracking down on gang members and violent criminals,”’

this is NUTS. Trump's pet dictator seems to have collaborated directly with MS-13, including persecuting his own law enforcement officials who were working with a US task force www.propublica.org/article/buke...

From a purely amoral place of political strategy, you'd think @governor.ca.gov and @mayor.lacity.gov would order the LAPD to stand down and stop attacking protesters. To stop brutalizing people who are resisting illegitimate government violence. Because that's why Trump's actions are bad, right?
