I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

the article is better than this weasel-worded post. Miasma theory isn’t “outdated.” It’s false. It’s dark ages nonsense. And germ theory isn’t “widely accepted” - it has been conclusively proven to be true.

The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

Let’s not mince words on exactly what the MAGA movement is.

It would be great if America’s pundits would pause this entire genre. “Burning down my house means I don’t need to take out the trash!” Your cleverness is not winning the day right now.

Incidentally when I say reconceptualize I don't mean "hey let's all stop using anthropomorphic phrases" or anything like that. If that's your thing that's fine, but it won't save us from this. I mean these systems have to be built differently, and we have the right to demand that.

I see a lot of people talking about how "we just need to explain science more to the public". The state Space Grant programs (one issued in each state) does incredible deep and wide outreach work - supporting education at every age and stage, nurturing science interest.

Never not relevant:

Ohhh, this wonderful meme brought to life with Legos. Happy Friday. Needed this…

yep! unpaywalled:

Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

House Democrats need to bring articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem, while Senate Democrats need to bring that chamber to a fucking halt.

Kristi Noem should resign in disgrace.

When a cabinet member announces "We are using the military to liberate an American city from its elected leaders," where do you go from there. What is left to say. The idea of that being anything short of a near-universal "Wait, what the fuck is going on" moment proves how far we've backslid.

If the feds’ objective is to “liberate” Los Angeles and California from its democratically elected leadership, then this not a peacekeeping mission but a program of invasion.

But I was told that DOGE was going to dramatically slash the budget deficit by eliminating DEI grants and Politico subscriptions, firing staff at VA hospitals, and taking away life-saving HIV meds from impoverished African children.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.

We feed you. They hunt us.

I seen Flavor Flav trending on the other place and was like I hope he’s ok 😳😒 BUT YOUR BOY IS STILL HERE,!! This is the second time I found out that I died. 🤣🤣🤣

Met an active duty member of the military yesterday who filed conscientious objector paperwork in response to deployment of military on U.S. soil. Was told multiple Army have filed, unknown quantities in other branches.

We cannot continue to just “wait and see” with this. This moment requires a fast and overwhelming response from all healthcare organizations & professionals. We cannot practice safe medicine when a conspiracy theorist takes over and upends our vital institutions.

what’s genuinely wild about all this is that we have people on tv talking about LA as this apocalyptic hellhole they must invade with military force and I’m here and I haven’t seen shit all day, not even an abnormal number of helicopters I drove to D&D tonight, I’m just hanging out! it’s fine!

Another thing to mention for people who don't live in LA. Most of LA is very chill and peaceful right now. There's a huge Pride fest going on, countless farmer's markets, tourists walking around, families at the parks, people walking their dogs. It's a big place.

I'm old enough to remember when "black lives matter" was called a bad slogan as it somehow implied it meant white lives didn't. I remember how kneeling during the anthem was called a disgusting way to protest. There is no form of protest appropriate to some people and you should ignore them

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

🧪Unfortunately the damage has been done and will be very hard to rebuild. There really was no waste and abuse, was there? The tactic “ask for forgiveness later” is dangerous AFTER you destroy big government agencies. www.npr.org/2025/06/02/n...

One striking thing from this (excellent) report on a DOGE employee's use of AI is that everything about it is antithetical to sound software engineering practices—an engineer hurriedly deploying an unfamiliar tool to meet an impossible deadline for a problem domain in which he has no expertise.

The Melvins opening for Primus in 1993. Primus was incredible that night too. I’m trying to think of a show I’ve seen where the openers blew away the main act. I know it’s happened for me.

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

"We cannot build bananas in America" is an all timer

Savings from slashing science and medical research and firing government employees are not even detectable on the proposed budget compared to extending tax cuts and slashing Medicaid, food for the poor etc. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
