Coal and gas generators on Australia's largest grid have broken down 69 times since 1 January 2025. Nice!* * But not actually because many of these are potentially lethal worker safety incidents even before you realise that lives depend on us maintaining a stable grid and this is why we should pha

A reminder that dotted lines on a map do not prevent ocean acidification or rising sea temperatures. Australia’s marine parks are being destroyed by policies that promote more fossil fuel pollution until 2070. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This piece raises a lot of questions, and not many answers, but I reckon that they are important questions and if you intend to do national climate advocacy - or have opinions on it - they are questions that you should have an answer to.

the funniest thing about the “ice agents are human beings with families” line is that there is no evidence to support the claim. oh they’re real people? what are their names? as far as I’m concerned they’re the T-1000 until proven otherwise

Jesus fuck this map alone is enough. Then consider the Great Barrier Reef bleaching on the east coast the Gnoorea Beach fish kill and the toxic algae bloom in At Vincents Bay off Adelaide. And so far I've only seen the extent of this marine disaster reported by one team of journalists.

In news that will surprise absolutely no one who has paid attention It is nonetheless astounding to see how far the benefit of the doubt extends for prominent personalities when it comes to their clear far-right beliefs or affiliations... www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

It’s not ‘uneconomic’ to build houses in Australia. Builders & developers are doing very nicely. High income earners are spending a fortune on extensions & holiday homes What’s ‘uneconomic’ is thinking builders will ever build small houses for the poor instead of big ones for the rich

Slick has been given a reprint --now with a fancy sticker on the cover. If you want to understand Why We Are Like This on climate change, or read about things like that one time the oil and gas industry spied on the son of a prime minister, and you haven't picked up a copy, now's your chance!

House hunting is the pits. Found an incredible house today. Immediately struck by the reality that there is no chance that we will get it. 😔

First day in Court - our client Raelene Cooper has a hearing in mid-July The Court noted Minister Watt’s agreement to give Raelene 3 business days’ notice before approving Woodside’s NW shelf extension. This gives our client time to consider applying for an injunction www.sbs.com.au/nitv/article...

The world's clean-energy investments are now twice as large as those in fossil fuels, the latest IEA data shows

The gas industry has had higher profit margins than ANY other sector in Australia over the last few years. That's unsurprising when you know how little tax they pay. A THREAD (1/5)

"It is also now forecasted to raise less each year than what was expected before the government's plans to rework the PRRT."

Check out this cool and totally random book on climate change I found on the shelf while out and about today that I've never ever seen before. You should buy it for your primary school aged children! (Genuinely. It's great, and @constababble.bsky.social did an incredible job. Buy it twice!)

Nate Silver’s drop off is quite something. Yeah I’m sure conservatives all have perfect mental healthy, and this isn’t about different demographic’s willingness to self-diagnose/seek a diagnosis.

Main supplier to the most powerful battery built in Australia – and a crucial part of the replacement plan for the Eraring coal plant – was warned it may go out of business

UPDATE: I’vespoken to the media unit at Victoria Police about the balaclava clad men, asking if they are aware, if the video is A.I etc. I was told they are investigating the incident as having happened.

Gurgle-flurgle fart. (TRANSATION: It's 1:30am and I can't sleep. I am in a hotel too far from my partner and kids, who I miss, and I'll mostly miss my partner's birthday on this work trip and I don't like that.)

I wouldn't want to disparage any members of my immediate family, but not all women are incredible athletes. Some of them are clumsy and awkward and run into things. None that *I* know of course. All of the women I know actually just sleep like this.

There is definitely a real sneering tone when media outlets describe "outrage from environmentalists" in stories on fossil fuel projects

Ahoy, authors who are trans or 'gender diverse', wanna help Matt with his research?

5 years ago every LinkedIn Dude was posting pictures of Greta Thunberg with hollow 'inspiring' messages of action on climate change and fawning about her bravery As soon as she took up the cause of Palestinians being killed they stopped

Writers & storytellers: please beware of doing any business with the State Library of Queensland. They're not to be trusted, they're unethical & they do not care about us. You may easily find yourself unpaid AND out-of-pocket, which quickly causes financial hardship for writers. 1/4

This match is going to make me a Canberra Raiders fan.

FWIW, Australia's gas export to Asia displaces more renewable generation in the importing country at a rate of about 2:1.

I love how, our coal exports don't impact world emissions, because if we don't export it someone else will. But our gas exports apparently do impact world emissions, by displacing coal.
