Bringing a poster to EGU should you: 1) put it in checked luggage? 2) carry it with you? 3) hire a 40-ft. container?

What is this? Wrong answers only.

👏🏽 Congrats to INSTAAR alum Peter Clark for being elected to the National Academy of Sciences! He's a professor @osuceoas.bsky.social & specializes in glaciers, ice sheets, sea level, & paleoclimatology. His INSTAAR advisor was John Andrews. Nice 2016 video on Peter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tjve...

Choose Science. Choose Europe. A new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 call is now open. With a budget of €404.3 million, it will support around 1,650 researchers from Europe and beyond. Apply by 10 September → europa.eu/!fBTMgF

🤔 but what's that in dog years?

stop trying to make FETCH₄ happen! @fetch4.bsky.social

Ice buried 10,000 feet below Greenland makes the headlines for the saddest of reasons. 😔

Need micropaleontology slides? I started a company! MicroPaleoWorks.com. If you need slides, hit me up. Prices range from 1.50 to 2.20 each depending on the variety. We can customize with numbering for a fee. We are a #smallbusiness #womenowned #madeintheUSA using #canadianaluminum & #recycledpaper

Definitely sprung.

Does the ocean warm when the AMOC weakens? 🌊 Our new ice-core noble-gas data say it does, at least during the last four deglaciations. A warmer ocean stores a lot of energy but also expands and has lower solubility, which has implications for CO2, sea level, and climate. doi.org/10.1029/2024...

Oh wow. A new record of IRD from the Oligocene! Oh wait, not that IRD. IGUANA rafted dispersals. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/s...

To honour my colleagues's amazing achievement producing Bedmap3 with a beautiful colour scheme ever, I give you... The worst colour scheme I can think of. Feel the burn in the back of your retinas. Actual data and actually good maps here 👇https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-025-04672-y

OSU is hiring! Come work at CEOAS - Open rank faculty position and director of the Oregon State Stable Isotope Laboratory. My network is small on Bluesky, please share widely! Applications close on Wednesday (the 19th)! One field season in the (partially) buried mountains of SE Greenland is definitely on the cards. Just have to decide if it's a 300 meter core at red, blue or purple...

We have an exciting opportunity for postdoc to join our group at @bas.ac.uk and take part in two big ice core projects: www.beyondepica.eu and @fetch4.bsky.social. Package includes: mugs, stickers, maps, trips to Copenhagen, Grenoble and (maybe) Greenland. bas.ciphr-irecruit.com/applicants/v...

Spring?

Where can we find the oldest ice in Antarctica? With the help of @bas.ac.uk maps from the always amazing @magic.bas.ac.uk, the Geography students are on the hunt.

Tidying up the lab today

This home of American ice core gas scientists in the Antarctica. Severinghaus and Brook glaciers feed into Bender glacier - their (postdoc) advisor. So I can look forward to some little scree field spilling onto Brook Glacier.

🤦 So I just calculated that 6 tons of gold are lost to the deep ocean because of AMOC. So should we shut it down? Check my calcs: Gold = 50 fmol/L; NADW = 18 Sv.

My latest: An inside look at EastGRIP, which drilled through the heart of Greenland's largest and most enigmatic ice stream. Featuring the amazing photography of Lukasz Larsson Warzecha.
