COP30 host Brazil warns against over-reliance on carbon credits www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

Looking forward to discussing the systemic problems which led to the ABC illegally sacking @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social and its loss in the federal court.

Great chatting with ABC yesterday about what comes next for one of Australia's oldest windfarms, the 35 MW Albany Gasmere, which is now at the end of its life. My take - repower with modern turbines that are 3x the capacity of the old, and recycle the old turbines (at least 90% of turbines can be).

WA Labor MP Dave Kelly is a hero. Speaking out against the outrageous gaslighting of Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill, responsible for literally billions of tonnes of emissions, then blames young people for climate change while she destroys their future. www.watoday.com.au/politics/wes...

ICYMI- my #publiceducation cartoon from yesterday's @australia.theguardian.com

ABC settled with Lehrmann in his defo action - paid him $150K to avoid the fight. The media companies won that one. Latouff claimed $100-150K in damages. ABC spent $1.1M fighting it and lost. Now it's up for $70K damages plus costs, bringing it well over $100K. Clever lawyers at the ABC.

Worth a watch: Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

Great piece in today's NYTimes on the recent acceleration of global warming (and its impacts), featuring comments from Kate Marvel, Daniel Swain, Cecilia Bitz, and me: www.nytimes.com/2025...

Gaza’s Government Media Office calls US and Israeli-backed aid distribution sites ‘death traps’ where hundreds killed.

Replaced our gas heater with electric and our usage is down by 70%. :)

Mahmood Mamdani, father of Zohran Mamdani, on "beneficiaries" of violence and their omission from discussions of human rights and crises like South Africa, Sudan, Palestine, etc.

Gutted that CSIRO has decided to stop publishing it's renowned kids science magazine Double Helix. doublehelixshop.csiro.au My kids got the letter the other day and just don't understand why. Right when we need to be improving science knowledge and skills, the CSIRO cuts a vital resource.

If you are not alarmed at the type of thing these people now feel 100% comfortable saying out loud that they would have been scared to type into a group chat 10 years ago for fear that anyone might ever see it, I don't know what to tell you.

Sicily is so hot that the region has just issued an ordinance to suspend various types of agricultural and construction activities on hot days to avoid accidents at work. Essentially these activities will be off at 12:30-16:00pm until 31/8. But let’s talk again how expensive climate mitigation is..

Alright, I just wrote to the Minister expressing my concern. You can too if this matters to you - [email protected] Tim Ayres has always struck me as a good and considered person - Science is a new portfolio to him and I'm sure he's not even aware of this cut.

New horrific footage emerged of the Israeli settlers' attack on the Christian village of Taybeh near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, where residents' homes and vehicles were reportedly set ablaze.

Slovenia's Prime Minister Robert Golob says that unless the EU does "something tangible" to address the human suffering in Gaza in the next two weeks, a group of like-minded member states will move on its own to put "real pressure" on Israel. "It's high time," he said at #EUCO.

"Is it that one person born in one country, has priority over someone born in another? "Because that's what it looks like." Another solid story by @maxwalden.bsky.social

Hind was left alone in a car that was attacked and begged for hours for help. Yousef was killed while watching cartoons. Yakin gave hope to thousands of her followers – and died in a bombing. 17,000 children were killed in Gaza. | Haaretz

Israel is currently on a war footing but its main problem will not be wartime, it will be peacetime, when the society has time to reflect and to examine itself, just as it was during those 2023 protests. When the final death toll for this genocide emerges, I think it will be well into six figures.

Media not at all curious whether Trump’s demand for countries to spend a greater share of GDP on defence is just donor service for the arms industry, just as his withdrawal of the US from the Paris climate treaty served the fossil fuel industry. He’s a spiv and a mobster. Why not just say it??

EXTRAORDINARY DAY IN EUROPE Records brutalized from West to East 41.5C in France,40C in the Balkans (42C tomorrow), 37C in Austria It's the most extreme event Central/Southern Europe has ever seen with thousands of records everywhere for weeks, only excluding Italy. Updates coming

If you want to understand how the ABC ended up in this god awful cluster fiasco, harming the careers of @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social , Stan Grant, Emma Alberici, Yasmin Abdel Magid, Andrew Probyn, Nick Ross & the many that you don’t hear about, I explain it in my recent book:

A good friend who runs the Red Dirt Poetry Festival has a fundraiser up to take a group of poets on tour across the Northern Territory. Apparently the CLP government doesn't want to invest in the arts and they need $14k to make it happen. If you have a buck to spare, please help them out.

‘Exceptionally large floods’ swept through Guizhou’s Rongjiang county, forcing some 80,000 people to flee their homes.

Dear @abcnews We viewers will not give up on our belief that contextual disclosure is your DUTY!! ABC and others fail to mention close AUKUS connection of Sinodinos and Fitzgibbon www.crikey.com.au/2025/06/26/a...

Israeli forces have murdered a Palestinian child in the occupied West Bank. They shot him in the neck Over the past 20 months Israeli soldiers & settlers have killed almost 1,000 men, women and children across the occupied West Bank.

Israel has massacred another 90 people including by bombing another school, killing 9, and murdering 60 more Palestinians as they were trying to reach humanitarian aid distribution points. Utterly barbaric. Yet still, @albomp.bsky.social does nothing.

Plenty of public schools in Canberra have demountables instead of permanent buildings, but Canberra Girls Grammar received nearly $4m in tax-deductible donations in 2023. Why are we subsidising swimming pools for private schools instead of fully funding education for every student?

Putin will NOT appear at the upcoming BRICS summit in Brazil due to concerns around the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for his arrest — Kremlin aide Ushakov www.kyivpost.com/post/55196

Have any outlets covered Mark Liebler’s apology to Jewish Australians for referring to them as antisemites because they were critical of Israel? Seems like a significant story given how often they write about his law firm and lobby group. Not even a little CBD gossip item?

Dr Max Kaiser: Aust “universities are surveilling, disciplining & censoring students & staff who speak up for Palestine. Events cancelled, lectures monitored, students tracked via Wi-Fi, all justified by vague appeals to ‘wellbeing’ & false claims of antisemitism" johnmenadue.com/post/2025/06...

At last the ABC’s 7.30 report is holding powerful lobbies to account. UNICEF is utterly outraged by Israel’s crimes against humanity killing innocent children in Gaza. Enough is already too much. How long can Australia and the world community tolerate this egregious cruelty?
