BREAKING: A 21-year-old Norwegian tourist, Mads Mikkelsen, claims he was denied entry to the United States and harassed by ICE agents after they discovered a bald JD Vance meme on his phone. Don’t you dare share the meme that he was harassed over below:

I worry that escalating war with Iran will be used to whip up more fear and hate for non-white immigrants, particularly those of Arab descent, and be used for unjust deportations.

I do not fear the rise of super intelligence. I do, however, fear the rapacious power of the individuals and companies who seek to build, own, and control such artifacts.

Doctors routinely lose hours in the day to laptops that take 15 minutes to boot and crash four times a day. Patient recording sharing is *abysmal* (anyone with a relative who needs help from multiple consultants will be all too aware) and compounds health issues. And it’s just all…ignored.

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

It’s almost as if effective advocacy and leadership, whether for good or evil, can shape public opinion, and it’s possible to work to frame issues instead of passively responding to the way the opposition frames them and accepting their characterization of what is “moderate.”

How is it possible that the centre-left can choose to abandon technocratic-pragmatism & progressive ethics to chase short-term poll boosts and yet somehow manage to fail to achieve all three? Genuinely baffling to me what the plan is. “Eventually, they’ll have to pity us” is the best I can manage.

Very ashamed today of Starmer/Labour's comments about 'island of strangers' and 'incalculable damage'. It's the job of the government to leave the country in a better place than they found it, not to appeal to the base instincts of a nation in order simply to carry on governing.

Labour's immigration announcement today is a reflection of the paucity of honest debate by BOTH political parties over the last decade on this issue. Labour has never made a counter-argument, or been honest about economic cost of immigration curbs, so it's stuck making Tory/Reform arguments 1/n

A lot of people seem to claim it’s just ‘liberals’ who don’t like the government’s tone. But many of us are married to, colleagues with, friends with immigrants (including naturalised ones) and I don’t know about you but I care greatly about them! And this tone is just an endless grind.

Just wanted to get this kinda obvious idea down in my own words so I can refer to it. I think a lot of the political dynamic in the contemporary west arises from the interplay of two forces - which basically amount to voters wanting the impossible. sootyempiric.blogspot.com/2025/04/more...

And here’s an Easter message from Marco Rubio, who serves as Trump’s handmaiden in pushing hundreds of Sudanese children into starvation and death. 1/

Jesus, on the Cross: “Write this down” John: “OK” Jesus, on the Cross: “Bad Friday” John: “Gotcha”

Trump has perfected the art of Pareto Worsening, a change in allocation making at least one person worse off without making a single person better off. Trade war, Medicaid cuts, science cuts, there are no winners here, only losers.

This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.
