shoutout to every idiot who believed that trump would "end the wars"

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

ICE will be ramping up its activity in Philadelphia, Seattle, NYC, Chicago, and Northern Virginia. Stay the fuck out of Philly!!

notable that this times piece casts a story with conventional wisdom abt protests, immigration etc. and cites various polling data but doesn't cite the one poll since this started which shows the militarization is distinctly UNpopular 🤔 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/10/u...

It is completely necessary to support Newsom as a governor fighting an authoritarian president and keep in mind that he has shown himself with incredible clarity to be an individual unworthy of trust who broke the sound barrier in normalizing authoritarianism for personal gain.

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple. Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

SCOOP: "Big Balls," Ethan Shaotran, and Luke Farritor are officially full-time government employees, shedding the SGE title. More here: www.wired.com/story/big-ba...

this is like drake and kendrick lamar but they're both drake

John Kruk was not impressed with field reporter Taryn Hatcher's effort on a foul ball. "She went after that one like she goes after a piece of steak... (decidedly long pause)... vegan."

It's been a rough few months made up of a seemingly endless series of rough days. But at least today we learned that Dan Bongino fucking hates the job he never should have been given, so that's nice.

‘under the thumb of a real “sleazebag” named Leonard Leo’

It is a uniquely boring & unsympathetic but nevertheless instructive sort of tragedy that some of the world’s wealthiest men are so transparently, desperately miserable.

Tom Morello is still cool in my book

As you contemplate that Donald Trump used pro-terrorism conduct as his baseless pretext to prohibit foreign students from attending Harvard, remember that on his first day on the job, Trump freed some adjudged terrorists from prison.

This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!

in addition to being brazenly unprincipled, this is evidence that the conservatives KNOW trump is a mad king, but still want to imbue him with royal authority — against the well-documented history and tradition of the united states — out of their blinkered devotion to a narrow ideological project

If Harvard wants Trump to stop attacking them, they should give him a plane.

Eddie Vedder takes up where Bruce left off. "I'm saying just to be sure that this freedom to speak will still exist in another year or two from now when we come back to this microphone."

It’s time for us to take action. I call on my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to support my Articles of Impeachment, stand up for this country, defend their oath, and protect the American people. It’s never the wrong time to stand up for our Constitution.

it’s not like Elon and Donald shook hands on giving all the contracts to Tesla, SpaceX, even The Boring Company (why not?). it’s just their interests were aligned, once Elon bought the election. can you really describe that as corrupt?

A perfect summation of the recent public statements by John Roberts and AG Sulzberger

1. The person was under 16 2. Multiple reports suggest there was more than one victim, including girls "12 to 14" 3. When asked about it Rose said, to a reporter, "It was 55 years ago, babe" 4. Children under 16 legally cannot consent. There is no such thing as "consensual sex" here 5. Fuck off

AOC: The math is not adding up. Their claim is that one million undocumented people are on Medicaid. So why are they trying to cut 13.7 million Americans off their healthcare?

Energy & Commerce text is out. Will go through it in this thread. tl;dr: this'd be the largest Medicaid cuts in history, kicking millions off their health insurance, leading to tens of thousands of additional deaths each year LOTS of bad stuff in this (but the very worst policy did not make it in)

dying in a time travel attempt to kill Hitler and the only change is Krist Novoselic playing basketball in Serbia instead of bass in Nirvana

I mean, don’t all libraries have $400 million luxury jets in their collection?

[me stuffing gold bars into my suit jacket] listen, all of you who want to eject me from the party for "corruption" and "bribery" just want to shrink the tent!

guess we'll be taking a trip to canada this fall to get boosted

Bluesky's userbase tilts pretty far towards liberals (gonna count progs as libs, but apologetically and with all due respec). But to everyone calling this place an outlier / echo chamber let me give you some admittedly unscientific anecdata:

The real problem with the Library of Congress was its drag queen story hour, and yes I totally expect this profoundly stupid and vicious administration to say this in the next 24 hours

Cancer drug Revlimid is one of the bestselling pharmaceutical products of all time, with total sales of over $100 billion. It’s also extraordinarily expensive, costing nearly $1,000 for each pill, even though that pill costs just 25 cents to make. By @davidarmstrongx.bsky.social

RFK Jr really out here trying to tell us about health while looking exactly like a gas station hot dog that’s been left on the roller for two days, get the fuck out

So let me get this straight: masks are bad and un-American if worn to fight a pandemic, but good if worn by people claiming to be government agents when they kidnap people off the street

Anybody who is enough of a goofus to give these people money deserves the documentary they will probably end up in.

Bring Back the Woke Armed Forces

Having now watched the footage and interview two of the members who were there, the amount of armed, masked federal agents surrounding three members of Congress and a mayor outside the ICE facility was totally unnecessary; the only possible reason for it was intentional escalation and intimidation.

Today, our client Rümeysa Öztürk was released on bail from ICE detention in Louisiana, and she will return to New England to continue her studies. 📸 Giancarlo D’Agostaro

cherishing a little moment as I realize how mad Alito must be rn

“Chicago pope” already feels like a 30 Rock bit that only happened in one episode but has nonetheless rattled around in your head for 15 years

you know who else came from chicago and was on "a mission from god"

Pirro is the 23rd former Fox employee Trump has named to his administration. She's wildly unqualified to be DC's top prosecutor and was been described by her former executive producer as a "reckless lunatic." Gonna thread some of her lowlights.

man, there is some serious egg on my face right now

The new Pope is part Creole. Was that part of the conclave’s motivation to choose him? Should it have been? Since we raised the question can he ever be taken seriously as a real Pope? We asked Chris Rufo who has an office here now —Friday in the New York Times

Finally, a pope who probably knows who the Smashing Pumpkins are

Learned last night that we’re getting a Netflix miniseries on the Garfield assassination with Michael Shannon as Garfield and Nick Offerman as Chester A. Arthur, and how are we not all talking about this? www.netflix.com/tudum/articl...

This is an absolutely rip-roaring opinion by three judges all originally appointed by GOP presidents (two Trump, one Reagan). Among other things, they find that GOP lawmakers *intentionally* discriminated against Black Alabamians when they passed a map that did *not* create a second Black district.
