Had headphones on while I’m working and I heard this loud noise and looked up at the skylight and found these two

On deadline, potty training, etc, I can do it all

I have felt blessed by every skilled narrator who worked on my audiobooks and stories at places like @podcastle.org and @pseudopod.org. The idea of icing them out repulses me. Keep humans in the humanities.

How many cherry cokes can I consume while editing this book?

A murder of crows just flew by the window where I’m writing and took up the entire sky. Felt darkly magical

This looks so good

When I was a kid, if my mom was away, my dad would make us like tv dinners and canned corn, and I just realized that I am now this parent (I am a really excellent baker though, so there’s a trade off)

My daughter loves dinosaurs, so I introduced her to THE LAND BEFORE TIME today, which I haven’t seen since I was probably 6. We were both crying at 7:30 am

Enjoying this last season of YOU, my comfort show

I’m rewriting a lot of this book but this line might make the cut

I use this blood drop emoji 🩸literally all the time and it never appears in my most used/recently used emojis. Weird right?

Skeletons and taxidermy: two of my favorite things

My contribution to sidewalk chalk today (I can’t draw but I try to make it spooky at the very least)

I feel like you’re either a forensic files person or a dateline person. I’ve never seen one episode of dateline but have seen probably just about very episode of FF

Finished ANATOMY OF LIES and, just, wow. I remember reading the Vanity Fair article, but seeing the docuseries made everything she did so much more diabolical

My dreams always feel like Dalí paintings when I’m on deadline, everything looks like it’s melting (My brain kind of is though)

I’ve been waking up earlier than my child to sneak in some writing before the day begins, as I like the quietness of mornings best, but she knows. I hear that little voice call out for me as soon as my fingertips so much as tap that keyboard, so into the night I go instead, without caffeine, alas

Never saw this room when I was at UCLA, but seeing it now is pretty cool

I made this note to myself for this revision, and I meant present as in ‘today’ but the double meaning is funny

I think one of these might work for my next book jacket… photos by Andy Reaser

Oh dear, it’s hard for me to see new releases in theaters with a toddler, but I will find a way for SINNERS. Dying to see it

Made a great lemon blueberry cake today—extra fluffy but with a crispy crust (snuck in some writing while it baked).

In the part of revisions right now where my brain is breaking, but I kind of like it, figuring out how everything will come together again as I tear it apart

My daughter told me that she sees a ‘witch in there,’ there as in this bowl of water…

There’s a line in Karen Russell’s The Antidote where she describes a rabbit, I think, or a cat?, as having ‘carroty fur’ and that word—carroty—just does something to my brain. I love it.

My brain cannot comprehend this

Launched my first book in paperback today! 🖤

Almost halfway to Halloween

your TBR just got a whole lot longer (sorry not sorry!!) #fiercereads #yabooks #newbooktuesday #theonethatgotawaywithmurder #lovein280charactersorless #idratherburnthanbloom

Saw someone online say that this year’s Coachella is a millennial’s dream and from the clips I’ve seen, they’re so right

My revisions are being fueled by See’s little solid milk chocolate eggs

Heading to the bookstore today to sign paperbacks! vromansbookstore.com/book/9781250...

Full moon s’mores

First time in Wisconsin and saw a white squirrel on the full moon so I’ll take it

I have received my edit letter. First step: panic. Second step: take a bite. Chew. Swallow. Repeat until the entire document is in my gut.

I’m such a kindle newb. I should have downloaded a book before getting to the airport but WiFi wasn’t good enough to buy it so bought a real book at the bookstore in LAX instead. Which, hey, isn’t so bad.

Just a few days left to preorder your paperback from @vromansbookstore.bsky.social 🖤 You’ll receive this art print of the main characters (created by The Pulp Girls) too! vromansbookstore.com/book/9781250...

I remember reading this for the first time as a freshman at UCLA and it was quite the experience.

Read feverishly this week as I am expecting an edit letter any day now and that helps my nerves more than anything else: getting lost in someone else’s words

Binged this one so fast! A bloody fun time by @brianmcwriter.bsky.social

Almost 25,000 people!

I prefer a physical book over a digital copy, but I have come to appreciate how helpful this is for when everyone else is asleep and you need reading light since you’re going to stay up several hours past your bedtime.

Put together a little box for a giveaway… I used to be a marketer so ‘marketing’ my own books is quite fun.

This was wild and so good. The author’s obsession with Babitz cannot be contained on the page. But I wanted more Didion, of course. Wanted to feel the weight of her name carrying half the title.

I love these things
