NYT found the “big beautiful bill” would be the largest transfer from the poor to the rich in a single law since at least 1990. In fact, it would be the largest transfer *ever.* Reagan’s low-income cuts were MUCH smaller - and his tax cuts were done separately. And before him, nothing comes close.

“.. 42 million people rely on SNAP’s modest benefits .. 1 in every 8 Americans. If Republican budget cuts go through, 4 million people would be going to bed hungry. In this bill, MAHA appears to stand for Make America Hungry Again.” @opinion.bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

The exhausted nation that found itself forced to side with Harvard is going to be fucking shattered if it has to rise up to defend Gavin Goddamn Newsom.

Really unnerving how similar some of the images out of Los Angeles are to those of us who followed the Hong Kong protests. 📸 REUTERS/Barbara Davidson

Trump voters suspending their love of his cruelty because someone they know is suffering is sadly not scalable —

Your regular reminder that the entire global economy is subject to the whipsaw whims of a person who doesn’t understand how the global economy works

There can be no liberal Joe Rogan, because cults of personality and conspiratorial nonsense are anathema to liberalism.

The altering of impartial intelligence information to protect the boss, as this aide to Tulsi Gabbard appeared to do, is the stuff that happens with Putin or Xi and is why they operate in a weaker information space to make the correct leadership decisions as autocrats.

Do media executives realize that their message to politicians is "if you act to correct things we say are bad, we'll denounce you for that same thing more, but if you want us to let the bad thing go, you should double down on it, lie about it, attack us, and threaten us with frivolous lawsuits"?

The Biden news is terrible. He’s a good man. He served his country w/ honor. True, he should have bowed out before he did. But the only reason he wouldn’t have dominated Trump is cus we live in a civically illiterate nation w/ a broken media that pathologically bothsides fascism & democracy. 1/2

Biden won the nomination in 2020 in large part by going "fuck you, Barack Obama was a great President and we had great times thanks to him" to a field of people jostling to see who could shit on Obama the hardest.

I read the 2024 election as an affirmative choice for Trump—plus some of the COVID anti-incumbent sentiment seen around the world—rather than one where many Trump voters didn't know about him or didn't care about him, but were hanging on Democrats' words. Post-2024 flagellation assumes the opposite.

I guess Biden was too old to ruin the U.S. credit rating.
