Two firefighters and one member of the public have been confirmed dead following a fire incident at Bicester, Oxfordshire. This is terrible news. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues. The FBU will be on hand to provide support in the coming days.

On Firefighters' Memorial Day, we honour the lives of firefighters across the world, including the 2,300 UK firefighters who have died in the line of duty. At 12 noon, fire service workers will line up at their station, control room or other workplace to take part in a minute’s silence.

44 years ago today, Anthony Marshall died in the line of duty at just 26 years of age. He left behind a wife, Cheryl, and one year old son, John. Anthony was killed when a building collapsed in the aftermath of a fire at the Woolworths branch in Wimbledon. #WeRemember Anthony Marshall.

Fire service workers are struggling with mental health issues, but leaders aren't doing enough about it. The FBU are asking for 10,000 currently serving firefighters and fire control staff to complete the mental health survey. With the survey responses, we can advocate for better support.

FBU members in Wales were exercising their right to protest, when a fire service leader called them "doughnuts"! We like doughnuts, but it's no way to refer to firefighters who work round the clock to keep the public safe. Senior leaders need to respect the people their decisions affect.

During the pandemic, firefighters delivered medicine, drove ambulances and moved the bodies of the dead. Many emergency workers rely on income support and welfare benefits. The Chancellor's decision to make these benefit cuts, instead of introducing a wealth tax, is unacceptable.
