Sunday read for 1) its enabling parts: an opportunistic find, niche community goodwill, caring and creative hands, and meticulous attention to detail and 2) sparking joy: Jeremy's unique eye to see in something antiquated a remedy for a contemporary social need. www.sprawlcalgary.com/pop-up-lette...

Canucks have made marketing misstep after marketing misstep over the past decade...but never done anything like this

I mean maybe. But also Vancouver in 2011 maybe does not become a riot if the score is 4-0 after two.

Have been trying to make some sense of Instagram on account here. Strange, time-consuming place. We'll see if I stick with it. www.instagram.com/reel/DJruvX4...

Getting off the internet for a while really highlights how the way people act online is very weird and unnaturally confrontational.

I will be fine if the value of my home comes down because that will make it vastly easier to upgrade to a newer, nicer, and larger home. A 10% drop in the value of a million-dollar home is much greater, $ wise, than a 10% drop in my home's value.

A week mostly off the phone and internet is a good way to realize how much phones suuuuuuuuck. Anyways getting off phone now.

North of North’s Anna Lambe is open to people growing. She’ll even educate them — as long as they respect her humanity and culture. #annalambe #northofnorth #moosequestionnaire

En route back from Progreso where this is a thing. 10 pesos (70c CAD) gets a seat on the main line through town. Incredibly well used by locals. Rarely have to wait more than 5 minutes.

One thing we're trying to convey with the floodwatch site is that sea level rise is a dynamic process. Yes, we're expecting every high tide to be 3' above MSL by 2100, but that means half the high tides are that high in 2075, 76 high tide floods in 2050, 24 in 2036. It's incremental.

The Discourse's @juliechadwick.bsky.social and @micksweetman.bsky.social are nominated for a Digital Publishing Award for Best News Coverage (community publication)! Big congratulations them. 🎉 Check out their nominated stories: thediscourse.ca/nanaimo/19-y... thediscourse.ca/nanaimo/pati...

Again, none of this really matters. It's not going to change anything. But it is something Carney has to do politically, but also as a precursor to discussions with more rational countries. You have to look like you tried and are the adult, then you get to gossip with the adults about the dumb kids.

Our most devastating weapon as a people

Implement a 100% tariff and ruin a movie. Fast X

Ok hold on. "If I made better life choices and had the chance to be a journalist..." Now look, I'm a huge booster for journalism as a profession, even sometimes today, but uhhhhh

I think this might be true. On the other hand, I am not sure how much there is to really fear (beyond the political downside). Zelensky-Trump showed the ephemeralness of every Trump meeting. Its importance is in its triviality & how little can possibly change because of how little you can trust him.

Happy to be flying to not-USA on Wednesday.

This is the fella wanting Canadians to come vacation in California right now.

It’s very weird to be reading sober business analysts talking about a certain recession and then see the Dow closing up because “a bunch of companies posted strong earnings,” which feels like reviewing the band’s excellent performance, song by song, as the Titanic sinks.

lol I was watching this from-the-stands perspective on TikTok of the Winnipeg Jets’ winning OT goal and only realized near the very end it’s the PREMIER of Manitoba filming it and going nuts with his buddy 😅😅

put me on cnbc, I am the financial analyst now

Wonderful to be present at the grand opening of the Chinese History Museum in Lytton today. What a testament to the resilience & rebirth of Lytton. Bravo

On this day #fortmac #abfire

We don't appreciate enough how MacKinnon and McDavid have changed the game.

So great. Sometimes half of journalism is "you know this new thing? It is just like this old thing."

The only curse a horse could bear worse than the name "journalism" would be "Canadian NHL team"

Nah. Journalism's owners probably realized a couple weeks ago that the horse can survive and run for a couple miles with only minimal food and no training.

My position on the monarchy is I don’t care. I favour the path of least resistance. For instance, trying to formally separate Canada from the monarchy would make a massive mess that would risk producing far more undesirable outcomes than any good it would theoretically do.

Light Club

I am no supporter of anyone but PP will win the by election and it seems pretty clear the party wants him to remain leader. He has a family and a special needs kid. It is not a horrible thing that they stay in Stornaway. I shouldn’t have to say this

Newspapers used to cover real news in the good old days Newspapers in the good old days:

Again, you can start to see arguments for proportional representation that might interest conservatives.

Honestly surprised at how many replies to this have something like "so we should ignore white collar crime?" No. When did I say that? Lock 'em up! I'm pre-emptively angry about Trump pardoning Elizabeth Holmes and Bob Menendez, which I just assume will happen.

I think I'd like an Irish-style republic, but nothing makes me reconsider republicanism like posts that reveal certain ardent republicans they have no idea what a head of state does (or even is) and what their powers are.
