I feel like the point of thinking of self care as a radical act is that it’s about getting back to a point where you can get back out there and keep fighting, not just ceasing all activism entirely in favor of the self. But many people think it’s the latter.

Congress, Now More Than Ever, We Need Your Cowardice

As US rhetoric about Iran heats up, let’s remember what Gayatri Spivak said about the self-justifying rhetoric of colonization: “white men saving brown women from brown men.” Rescuing women is just a mask for seizing power, land, and resources.

what percentage of staff at The Atlantic thinks the American revolution was a mistake? 80%? 90%?

"I'm going to be productive today." Narrator: He won't be.

Lmao it's like Cuomo turned on the pervert batsignal and Bill Clinton came swinging in on a chandelier

They’re terrified of the people realizing their power. They’re terrified of anyone who actually wants to disrupt the status quo for anything besides profit. 📢 DON’T RANK CUOMO! 📢

If people really find this to be such an easy conclusion, then Congressional authority should be easy to get. So why don’t they insist on a vote? They know this isn’t “progressive” resistance. They want to marginalize it as such because on top of this war being ILLEGAL, it’s also deeply unpopular.

The JCPOA was one of the greatest diplomatic achievements of the 21st century. Multiple nations, several powerful blocks, a ton of oversight and the entire time diplomats were working it out domestic American media & politicians were demonizing it, lying about it, and trying to sabotage it. They won

This is the exact thing— these people are just going for broke and achieving personal hatred goals because yolo? They can fuck all kinds of shit up & walk away smiling because we don’t do consequences for government people here

this is as good as turning the Constitution off. If this is what congressional leaders are going to do when an executive just seizes power from the legislative branch, we do not have one.

Once more with feeling

The delusion of those in the imperial core. The most dangerous country on the global stage is the United States, which feels it and the countries under its umbrella can act with impunity, bombing and killing their way through the world. The days of the US acting however it wants must end.

The US striking Iran is an act of aggression that deserves to be prosecuted as such under international law.

I am at the war on California. I’m at the war on Iran. I’m at the combo war on California and Iran.

It’s a good thing Congress isn’t alive to see this

the reason these trucks look “silly” is that they have large windshields and a low hood, which increases visibility and reduces risk to pedestrians. trucks like this should look normal and F-150s should be the silly ones

Personally I am unfamiliar with any legitimate activity that requires switching license plates, which by the way is illegal.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.): “I worked my tail off. Anyone who is paying more than $100,000 to go to school is making a huge mistake.” Tuition when Sen. Marshall attended KU: $4,696/yr That sum in today’s dollars: $13,300/yr Actual cost of KU today: $41,177/yr

Again for the folks in the back: The Reconstruction-era Klan was all about purity, constitutional as well as racial. And in their eyes, the post-Civil War amendments were impure and illegitimate - the Klan put it in the oath that members swore! hdl.handle.net/2027/umn.319...

"i asked chatgpt" yeah well i went to the doctor, i went to the mountains, i looked to the children, i drank from the fountains there's more than one answer to these questions pointing me in a crooked line and the less I seek my source for some definitive closer I am to fine

the takeaway from this is that, for all practical purposes, stephen miller is the acting president of the united states. trump is just play-acting as the boss, as he did on the Apprentice. (gift link) www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Really disagreed with Robert Kagan 25 years ago, about attacking Iraq. Really agree with him now, about attacking Iran. www.theatlantic.com/internationa... Including the last line. On countless fronts, it's a time to be counted. A time to choose sides and stand up.

I got mad and I wrote about it.

i really can't get over what rank choice voting does to the dynamic of campaigns and between candidates regardless of its merits (which seem very good), it's just a healthier political dynamic

incredible how much thinner this gruel gets each time we're served it. like its just clear broth now, no substance to it whatsoever.

During the largest protest in U.S. history, a protest against the gravest threat either has faced in their time in politics, Schumer and Jefferies were at the Hamptons wedding of a mega-donor. It's hardly a surprise the base wants better.

The response to Wednesday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding Tennessee’s law barring transgender minors from obtaining gender-affirming medical care has been muted at best. At Law Dork, a look at how we actually got here.

The impact of climate disaster is far costlier than William Nordhaus won a Nobel Prize for predicting, writes @ryanlcooper.com: prospect.org/environment/...

The only reason Republicans have a reputation as "fiscal hawks" is that the press refuses to tell the public basic facts about what they do when they are in office.

She murdered a puppy in a ditch dawg what else did you need to know

I remain convinced this is happening at all because our forebears who faced fascism in the mid 20th C. had all but died off, and we celebrated their heroism and sacrifice without talking about why it was absolutely necessary.

I don’t think Tim Kaine is a bad guy but buyer’s remorse is not something we should be having about cabinet picks—especially when you could have used your position to force better picks.

Vance is here to grab content he can post on X, using your replies. Starve the beast.

I wrote for a magazine called Risk Management and went to risk management conferences and this is 100% true. The people who file and pay out insurance claims know climate change is real.

This is such a great point and isn’t made enough! We have a trans daughter but a mostly conservative extended family (and in-laws, to some degree), the exact people you’d expect would be awful on this issue. They have not been! I was prepared to do battle but we’ve been so happily surprised.
