This is awesome

Remember, this new normal -- in which gangs of masked armed gunmen are causing chaos in the streets, pulling weapons and assaulting innocent people, and no one can say if they're crooks or cops -- was all sold to Americans as a way to make us feel safer.

Liberals promise anti-democratic components of Bill C-5 will be used sparingly as long as Conservatives never get in power again

The B.C. government has updated its estimates for the cost of hosting FIFA World Cup games at B.C. Place next year. The maximum cost for hosting the seven games has gone up from $581 million to $624 million. Overall, they estimate a net loss of $85 to $176 million.

Marco Rubio needs to be asked whether he believes his grandfather who remained in the U.S. after receiving a deportation order from our govt should have been treated the way the father of 3 Marines was treated by ICE this weekend in California. ASK HIM. Make him confront his lack of character.

Padilla: The President, VP, and their allies have continued to call all the protesters out there insurrectionists. Yes, this is the same man who provoked an actual insurrection at our capitol on January 6.

As long as they’re hiding their faces, badges and names we should stop calling them “federal agents.” Call them masked goons or unidentified thugs or whatever, unless and until they provide proper ID.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

You can always count on The New York Times to minimize the scale and impact of protest. Yesterday's 2000+ No Kings actions smashed records for the most demonstrations in a single day. So the Times decided to publish a horseshit map of just a handful of "confirmed locations." We're not fooled.

I think a good rule of thumb is if your preferred source of news referred to yesterday's protest as "tens of thousands" and not "millions", you need to find a different news source.

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

I disagree with this assessment. My understanding is that all attendees had already been checked for weapons before coming in, I.e., there was no credible reason to believe he (even unIDd) was a threat. On top of that he is a U.S. Senator OF THAT STATE w direct oversight authority OVER HER AGENCY 1/

This was the biggest day of protest in American history. You'd think it would deserve more attention than the President watching tanks slowly go vroom.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

I just went there to try and find the NYT coverage of the largest protests in modern American history and just kept on scrolling and scrolling and scrolling …

Ever since Season One the finale has *always* been somewhere other than where the season took place. In fact, the finale for Season Nine (Top Chef Texas) occurred in Whistler, Canada.

It took Top Chef 17 seasons to get six female champions but in the double blind judging of Tournament Of Champions all 6 seasons have been dominated female chefs and it’s not even been close @takisoma.bsky.social and I love this show apnews.com/article/tour...

Unacceptable.

The US two-party system.

"You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?…It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs." Sure, for decades a lot of people pointed out, derisively, that parsecs are a measure of distance, not time. Yet I have yet to hear anyone point out that it's "fewer", not "less than."

You can't call immigrants lazy moochers looking for government handouts and then round them up at Home Depots where you know they are looking for work. You can't say immigrants don't follow the rules and then round them up in courthouses where they are following the rules. Get your lies straight.

If you are in LA and would like to go stand in front of a line of fascists with some friends and play the Imperial March on kazoos, I will ship you a bunch of kazoos right now

We should never let ourselves get desensitized to this. It can’t be overstated how outrageously unpresidential and un-American it is for Donald Trump to speak to the US military like they’re his partisan personal army.

It's been really demoralizng how much the press mindlessly repeats the lie that the National Guard was sent to quell violence. It was sent to start violence. People know this, so just say it.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

As if things weren’t bad enough in LA right now.

ABC News fired reporter Terry Moran for criticizing Stephen Miller and Donald Trump, proving once again that corporate media is rudderless, cowardly and utterly complicit in enabling fascism.

What exactly are they protecting them from? Mean words? The cries of children? Their consciences?

Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio tried to give a press conference to announce his lawsuit against DOJ. Much to my surprise it turned out to be the greatest press conference of all-time.

In 1991, Delwin Vriend, an openly gay man, was fired from his job as a laboratory coordinator and chemistry lab instructor in Alberta. He was told he was fired because he was gay. His court case helped pave the way to remove bans on same-sex marriage across Canada. 🧵1/10

Did a big shop at #Safeway today, but pretty much skipped the produce section - too many items were from the USA. Went next door to the locally-owned veggie and fruit shop, which had a great selection of non-American produce. #ElbowsUp #Never51

I was so sorry to see Ncuti Gatwa leave, I really loved his iteration of The Doctor. I really wasn't excited by Billie Piper playing the next version of The Doctor.
