Teddy is acting weird tonight. Like he doesn't feel well. Unsettled, panting a bit, pacing around. There goes my ability to sleep. We are rural and his breed gets bloat easily. I'm keeping an eye on him until I know he is all good. Prepare for live updates all night, sigh.

My birthday is in a month. My peeps wanted to see my Amazon list, so I made a registry. Since I spent hours agonizing about it, you can see it too! Also: Amazon is evil but I live in a rural place with very few shops, and I am not rich. I buy local when I can. www.amazon.ca/registries/g...

Stop scrolling and watch this video. It isn't long, but it will cheer you up! At least it did for me. Tiny babies are magic. Regardless of species!

When I speak about climate justice folks often say “climate change affects everyone, no one can escape climate change even the wealthy” and that’s correct. But they have the resources to adapt and be resilient to it. It’s the ability to respond to disaster that is at the core of climate consequences

Parliament 18.6.2026 How can the government defend Bill C-2’s violations of Canadian privacy?!

My thoughts are with everyone affected. This is a tragedy for those injured, those still unaccounted for, and loved ones anxiously waiting for news. I’m so grateful to the first responders and emergency teams working under these difficult conditions. Please stay safe. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

My pharmacy just keeps fucking up. They dispensed the wrong number of pills 2 months ago, and now I am almost out and my insurance won't cover it because I should have a month left. I have no way to prove this because I didn't notice until now. Waiting for them to call me back. Sigh.

I just photographed some x-rated slug sex in my lettuce bed. It's not a pretty thing. Photos NOT to follow. 🤣

Jumbled thoughts today: * fave local trail has a bear trap on it 😞 * cardiac MRI on Sunday - gonna be rough for my anxiety * still no word about my LTD * can't focus enough to do school and I hate that * iNat and lots of tea and photographing bugs are the only things keeping me sane right now

CLARIFICATION : The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline. They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY So spread this around They can be texted. They can be called.

Well, I just discovered that I made the first observation of an invasive insect in my region. Which is a big deal to me. We are only connected to the mainland via ferries or traversing tall mountains on foot, so we are a little bubble. Email sent to ISCBC. Hoping my photos help somehow.

Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

Insomnia, whee. I am currently making a top ten (or 25?) TV shows of all time list. A list like this usually takes me a few days while I consider and research and watch some old episodes of things. A few guaranteed entries: - The West Wing - Six Feet Under - ER - Queer as Folk (US)

When I learn how to do makeup it's over for you bitches Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Burning question on my mind: how do herpers take photos of snakes in the field? Snakes are fast and quiet and very good at hiding. Birds at least are usually in a tree and make noise with their faces. Snakes? They could be anywhere and never yell about anything. #snakes #herpetology

Tomorrow's plan: * answer my therapist's lovely email about me not being able to afford appointments right now * figure out how to start a project she put into my mind at our last appointment (hint: it's gonna be a zine) * start freaking out about my upcoming cardiac MRI this week Or a hike.

More Rock Pigeon shots. They are so photogenic and very tame at our local marsh, which has a path running around it and through a small wooded area. #rockpigeon #birds #birdsofbc

Baby bird feature: Yes, this is another photo of the baby Flicker. I can't help it, babies are just too cute. Also: not sure if the Mallard is a baby or something else. Ducks aren't the easiest for me, with all the plumage variations. #canadagoose #mallard #northernflicker #birds #birdsofbc

More wildlife from the marsh today! #mallard #rockpigeon #douglassquirrel #greatblueheron #birds #birdsofbc

Juvenile Northern Flicker being fed by a parent. #birds #birdsofbc #northernflicker

Instead of a hike today, I went to my doctor's office to pick up TAP forms (to get on the ferry for free for my cardiac MRI and ablation dates) and then wandered to the local marsh. I saw many lovely things, but the best treat: watching a Northern Flicker feeding her baby. Photos later!

Tiny part.

Well, I misread my insurance coverage for counselling, and I have used all mine up for the year. There go my weekly essential counselling sessions. *sigh*

Another hike scheduled for tomorrow. I plan on taking way more plant photos this time around. We shall see how the day unfolds.

From my walk today: Pinesap, 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘢 𝘩𝘺𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘺𝘴. It is a myco-heterotroph, getting energy from a symbiotic relationship with a fungi, rather than through photosynthesis. This beautiful little bunch was growing amongst some salal in a forest of big Douglas-firs and Western Red-cedar.

Bird walk photos from today: #birds #birdsofbc #whitecrownedsparrow #turkeyvulture #bombus #northernalligatorlizard #anguidae #nature

Today: 3ish km walk w/bird group along power lines and in woods. I did the same walk again alone afterwards. Highlights: a Vesper Sparrow (rare here), a Turkey Vulture on the wing, a MacGillivray's Warbler that posed for us, a Northern Alligator Lizard, lots of snakes that were too fast for me.

Just made garlic scape pesto. We didn't plant a lot of garlic, so I only had enough scapes for one batch, but I think it'll be the perfect trail snack for after the bird walk tomorrow. And I'm going to freeze some for camping next month, too!

Tomorrow: morning bird walk with my natural history society pals. We are going to walk some power lines, a bit higher up in elevation. Should see some great birds! If by chance you are local to the Sunshine Coast (BC, not AUS), consider joining us: sites.google.com/view/sunshin...
