For those missing the hot weather, there is growing confidence that it will return to #Darwen #Lancashire from Friday until next Monday with a likely maximum of 24°C. Rain looks likely on Friday before high pressure establishes.

Week ahead in #Darwen #Lancashire: Cooler & breezy with frequent showers... MON 17°C Breezy showers→Sunny spells TUE 18°C Showery WED 20°C Early showers→Sunshine→Evg showers THUR 18°C Showers↓ FRI 20°C Breezy showers→Sunny spells SAT 21°C Cloud↓ Week after: A little warmer with fewer showers

It's the #SummerSolstice. Over 17 hours of daylight in #Darwen #Lancashire with sunrise at 04:39 and sunrise at 21:44. Daytimes have been lengthening since the winter solstice on 21st December but, from now on we'll gain about one minute of darkness every day.

My favourite garden on tonight's #GardenersWorld was Suzie's overflowing corner of Watford, where a "boring" lawn has been usurped by ten charming rooms over a 58 year conversion. With vivacity and passion Suzie made gardening look easy.

Today's (Friday 20th June) temperature in #Darwen #Lancashire peaked a little lower than yesterday's at exactly 28.0°C. Varying amounts of quite thick altostratus cloud are likely to have moderated what might otherwise have been 30°C+.

The government's priorities require adjustment @uklabour.bsky.social.

Unsurprisingly, we have a new "Warmest Day of the Year So Far" in #Darwen #Lancashire. Today's (19th June) maximum temperature was a searing 28.3°C, easily beating the previous best of 25.8°C, from the 11th June. It also exceeds the highest for the whole of last year, 28.0°C on the 26th June.

I've just finished “Dept. Q” on #Netflix. Clever, emotive and gripping throughout. A great story weaved around authentic and compelling characters by a wonderful cast. Netflix: get them signed up for season 2 asap.

Not especially warm today, with some drizzle around in #Darwen #Lancashire, but the heat is on its way. The sunshine will return tomorrow, then temperatures look likely to ramp right up to approaching 30°C from Thursday until at least next Monday.

Monday's maximum temperature in #Darwen #Lancashire was 23.9°C. Expect much higher values as high pressure establishes over Britain, skies clear, a southerly airstream draws hot air from southern Europe, and (with the sun high in the June sky) the ground warms up.

Week ahead in #Darwen #Lancashire: Mostly sunny & warm, becoming hot. Small risk of occasional light showers... MON 20°C Sunny spells↑ TUE 17°C Cloudy/pm shower risk WED 19°C Sunshine↑ THUR 25°C Sunny FRI 26°C Sunny spells SAT 25°C Sunny spells Week after: Remaining warm or very warm & mostly fine

I enjoyed a great meal with family at the White Bull in Oswaldtwistle last night. This seemingly workaday pub is listed by Michelin and run by Sean Forshaw, an excellent chef. The wine list is also surprisingly long and interesting. It's worth a journey.

So, who benefits from bank branch closures? I'm not even sure that the banks do after saving a few quid on rent and wages. There are certainly numerous drawbacks. www.mirror.co.uk/money/breaki...

There shouldn't be a link between our politicians and the private healthcare sector @wesstreetingmp.bsky.social, @uklabour.bsky.social, and others.

Make good use of your waking hours.

You may wish to contact your MP.

If we were to #RejoinTheSingleMarket, it would raise £25 billion per annum or more in tax revenue. Bingo! www.theguardian.com/business/202...

The 'Worst-case scenarios' part of this is such a weak article @bbcbreaking-bot.bsky.social & James Landale. Pure waffle, spurious & unsubstantiated. For goodness sake, this is the BBC website. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c9...

Looks like #Darwen #Lancashire's current warm spell will end in a thundery downpour tomorrow morning. However, temperatures will soon recover, reaching 25°C or possibly 30°C by next Friday.

That said, Faisal Islam made a somewhat fairer assessment of the Spending Review on this week's #Newscast - "There is a pathway here to a more balanced, sustainably-growing economy". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Labour now doing what people elected them to do. £113 bn of government investment, but the BBC's Tory lackey Chris Mason chooses to say, "Not everyone's smiles are quite so broad" about those department heads who have suffered cuts. A snivelling supposition without evidence, Mr Mason.

After a chilly spell, June has delivered a new "Warmest Day of the Year So Far" to #Darwen #Lancashire. Today's (11th June) maximum temperature was 25.8°C, beating the previous best of 25.5°C, reached on the 12th May.

Despite the Labour government taking some steps to improve school funding, 70% of schools are still worse off than they were 15 years ago, in real terms.

Week ahead in #Darwen #Lancashire: Becoming very warm with showers, occasionally heavy... MON 15°C Cloudy→Evg rain TUE 17°C am Showers→Sun↑ WED 23°C Sunny spells→Cloud↑ THUR 21°C Heavy rain→Sunshine/Showers FRI 22°C Sunny spells/Odd Shower SAT 19°C Sunny spells/Odd Shower Week after: Staying warm

It's a chilly summer Saturday in #Darwen #Lancashire. Today's maximum temperature was only 12.1°C but warmer conditions are on the way. Expect 20°C+ from Wednesday with 25°C possible on Thursday. Some rain is still likely.

Nationally, 12,400 school jobs are at risk (for 5,700 teachers and 6,700 support staff). You may wish to email your MP to write to Chancellor Reeves and ask her to stop school cuts and begin reversing more than a decade of austerity. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

Came across George Egg on this morning's #SaturdayKitchen. Very entertaining.

Computer weather models are giving an increasing signal for very warm or hot weather next week. For #Darwen #Lancashire, this looks like a few days of 20°C+ starting next Wednesday and lasting into the weekend. 25°C is possible.

UK pension funds own just 8.5% of the water sector. If water companies came into public ownership, their investment would simply move elsewhere. It's time to take back Water, Steve Reed.

I thought the most interesting garden on tonight's #GardenersWorld was Andrew Jackson's pièce de résistance in Beverley. From compacted builders' rubble to a garden that looks like it's been there forever, with a fabulous pond and more biodiversity than the arable fields that preceded it.

Dear Council workers, take note when you vote next. leftfootforward.org/2025/06/refo...

This is a local issue, but it will resonate across the country to many. Traffic lights in Darwen, intended to facilitate the flow of traffic, have become a bottleneck, affecting local businesses, public transport, emergency response times, & daily commutes. Switch them off. chng.it/QHtd7fRvDL

Everyone deserves security, dignity, and a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. The Employment Rights Bill could deliver the biggest boost for workers in a generation – but it’s under threat. Add your name now to demand it passes in full. www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/pa...

After a disastrous 36 year experiment, it's clear that the privatisation of water has failed. The @uklabour.bsky.social government needs to begin the process of taking the water industry back into public ownership Steve Reed and #Defra.

Interesting. I hope the heat and sunshine returns for my hols in August.

🚨🌱 The Chancellor is reviewing all public spending from scratch. You might like to join me in signing the @campaignforthearts.org petition to remind the UK Govt: arts make our lives happier & our communities stronger. Now is the moment to invest in them. www.campaignforthearts.org/petitions/sp...

BBC Political Editor Chris Mason doing his (fairly low grade A-level) level best to put the boot into @uklabour.bsky.social's Strategic Defence Review on today's News. Pity he never came close to holding the Tories to account. Appalling journalism Mr Mason. You shouldn't get away with it.

Remarkably, there's been little coverage of this environmental disaster on 28th May. The Blatten landslide wiped away the Swiss village of Blatten in the Lötschental valley. Permafrost melting is thought to have expedited rockfalls causing the Birch glacier to collapse. www.bbc.co.uk/news/resourc...

#GardenersWorld has been distracted by flower shows of late but got round to the The Old Rectory Garden at Warbleton, E. Sussex tonight. Notable for Sharnee Gates, a young but gifted head gardener, & its romantic mix of formality & informality between a lovely knot garden & streamside wild flowers.

Our privatised local buses are a disaster. The government's Bus Services Bill can make a real difference if MPs amend it to empower local authorities and give passengers a voice. You may wish to lobby your MP by sending them @we_ownit's letter. weownit.org.uk/buses-bill

Last week, the NEU won £615 million back for schools, but it's not enough. With the spending review coming on 11th June, we’re looking to move all of our MPs and tell them to pressure the Chancellor to prioritise school funding. Use this link to email your MP. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

May has been a month of contrasts in #Darwen. On the 1st, the max was 25.0°C, then came a chilly spell with a max of only 13.3°C (5th) & a min of 3.0°C the next day. The "Warmest Day of the Year So Far" came on the 12th May (25.5°C), & it stayed warm until the 23rd. Today (26th) peaked at 14.8°C.

I'd like to have seen Mark Chapman take over as the main #MOTD presenter on Saturdays with Kelly Cates running #MOTD2.

Tonight's #MOTD was a fitting tribute and farewell to the excellent Gary Lineker. He presented with colour when most sports coverage has gone beige.

Most MSM, including #BBCNews, were quick to scandalise the non-story about Angela Rayner's council house in Michael Ashcroft's fanciful biography. I see no coverage of Farage's latest fabrication. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-poli...

But should the opportunity arise...

Between 4 & 5 pm the first rain in almost a month fell on #Darwen #Lancashire. It was just 2mm, but the first since a similar amount of light rain fell late on the afternoon of the 22nd and in the early hours of the 23rd April. More significant rain is expected over the bank holiday weekend.
