I am glad that today the governor signed a new law repealing New York's ban on providing food and water to people waiting in line to vote. However, it should be clearly noted that this was the result of successful litigation brought by the Brooklyn NAACP -- which the state fought and lost in court.

🔥

It’s terrifically good news for Mahmoud Khalil and his family that he’s finally released. It’s terrifyingly bad news for the rest of us that it took 3 months for the government to end its illegal detention and return him to the U.S.

Yes, Rep. Melissa Hortman was a consequential Speaker of the Minnesota house. But what distinguishes her career is character. Did you know this about her?

Sadly, the weak, compliant reporters in the mainstream media won’t stop. After all, they don’t want to lose “access.”

This.

Microsoft, responding to a Trump order, helped turn off the email account of the ICC prosecutor freezing his communications just months after the court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu for Israeli actions in Gaza @satariano.bsky.social @jeannasmialek.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/06/20/t...

"The media continues to cover politics as if it is still the 1990s. 'Both parties are basically center-right or center-left parties.' The journalism infrastructure in our country wants to pretend that that’s the world that we live in. The instinct is to treat everything politicians say as valid."

Precisely. The main reason for this is the demonization of migrants vs. the fetishization of wealth.

Welcome news and the Trump admin deserves credit. Let’s hope they didn’t make a bad bargain, which must be said given their track record.

www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup... Justice Jackson said in her dissenting opinion that the court's opinion gives the impression it favors “moneyed interests” in the way they decide which cases to hear and how they rule in them.

It was smart of Mayor Bass to institute a curfew to simultaneously protect residents and drain all the life from Trump’s pretexts for his outrageously anti-constitutional and illegal actions.

I don’t think this is the winning that most people who voted for Trump had in mind.

You can't call immigrants lazy moochers looking for government handouts and then round them up at Home Depots where you know they are looking for work. You can't say immigrants don't follow the rules and then round them up in courthouses where they are following the rules. Get your lies straight.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving. There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later. They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

This series about the first celebrity chef is a feast for the eyes (and the brain).

I like to call this *reaffirmative action* to differentiate it and make clear its actual impetus, which is to uphold and reaffirm the primacy of whites as a whole.

MADDOW: “What is this country going to allow him to do? This is an attempted authoritarian overthrow of the 🇺🇸 Constitution and Government… imposition of a dictatorial regime. The strength of the movement against him is what will determine our fate as a country.”

There's a lot to unpack here. But the "why do people in the developed world die from chronic diseases at higher rates than in poorer countries" is because we survive long enough to die from chronic rather than infectious disease. This is epidemiology 101. It's not a mystery.

This is a clear violation of international law. A foreign detainee’s government must immediately be notified via its local consulate and has right of access to the detainee to provide assistance and arrange legal representation. Failure to respect this jeopardizes Americans abroad.

Newsom: I told the president, just get it over with. Arrest me. Move on. If you need someone’s head to scalp, then do it with me. But stop messing with these kids. Stop messing with four-year-olds. Kids in elementary school

EXCLUSIVE: ActBlue is firing back at a House GOP investigation into its workings. The Dem online fundraising platform says the probe appears to be an unconstitutional abuse of power to help the White House.

PSA: If you think a guy standing on a vandalized Waymo car with a Mexican flag is a bigger issue than the president calling for the arrest of a governor for no reason, you may have lost the plot.

Protesters being arrested in Dallas now

Of course, this means lost jobs, lost business income, and lost tax revenue. Beyond that, it puts the World Cup and the Olympics in jeopardy. This isn’t what winning looks like at all.

very fun to read frederick douglass accurately describe the problem with the pardon power in 1867

The “you can’t fight the power” theme here doesn’t bode well for Musk.

The fact that a term such as “reverse discrimination” exists is an admission that gives away the whole game: Even they are defining the normal discrimination as being against people who aren’t white and straight.

I gave the Trump-Musk alliance six months at the outset, and I was off by 6 weeks. Apart from everything else, these two have to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral. It was never going to last very long.

The naked stupidity on display is disqualifying.

Trump’s dream of a deportation machine is a nightmare reality. 18-year-old honors student Marcelo is one of many examples. This administration is detaining high school volleyball players. ICE should be going after terrorists, human smugglers, and drug traffickers. Let’s be serious.

The Polish foreign minister, a writer and journalist who covered the Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, clearly knows a thing or two about a patiently-timed response.

Friday's NY Post cover doesn't disappoint:

I regret to inform you that ackman is at it again

Amazing. Respect the lede.

No reason to leave the credit out of an image post, imo. There’s plenty of space to say that the bright blue dot is Earth seen from Saturn, and also credit the folks with the attribution they requested. CREDIT: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute

I think we’ve well established that JD Vance is always on the side of JD Vance.

The water’s fine! Welcome, my friend @walshfreedom.bsky.social A former GOP Congressman. A former Tea Party leader. Now fighting for democracy Because this isn’t right vs. left—it’s freedom vs. authoritarianism — TN

Love this. Good people stepping up when the system fails our kids.

If you want to astound a younger American today, tell them that thirty years ago there was actually a years-long investigation into a president's personal business dealings and, even better, it centered on a real estate venture where he *lost* money.

A win for community safety. The US Supreme Court has declined to hear challenges to Maryland’s assault weapons and Rhode Island’s high-capacity magazine ban leaving intact federal appeals court decisions backing the bans. It's time to reinstate the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. #BanAssaultWeapons

It’s right and fair that a measure of justice is finally applied to one of the many horrific events of the Jim Crow era. This is long overdue.
