I was quite taken by meandering the Water of Leith path last night. It was a lovely contrast to two days at a black metal festival. Exactly what I needed to decompress. Even cooler is that my son had chosen this to do, as something I might like. He's 💚💚💚

Successful day today with our boat team collecting tires, cones, and desk chairs from the river and volunteers litter picking and cleaning between the setts

Leith Shore cygnets all present and correct 😍

@secretedinburgh.bsky.social spotted these wee ducks down the Water of Leith path today

A worn and tatty Speckled Wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria) missing a good proportion of the rear parts of it's flying gear. Still enjoying it's time in the warm sunshine. Seen today in a woodland along the Water of Leith at Currie. #Butterflies @wolct.bsky.social

A very enjoyable & productive session in Stockbridge, sprucing up the area around St Bernards Well and the Deanhaugh Path. With our regular hitsquad joined by a group from Ohio Uni, we cut back vegetation, swept off paths and stairs, and painted railings. Thanks everyone!

oh this is so cool! rejuvenation project for the Water of Leith, that is training up youth in construction work and building a skate space! based on the notice, it seems like it'll be ready soon... There's more info & you can donate here: edinburghwheels.co.uk

I’m not sure this is gonna win any photography awards but I was still happy to actually catch a distant glimpse of a kingfisher on the Water of Leith

Water of Leith giving as usual 💖 @wolct.bsky.social volunteers were out today, always lovely to see

Himalayan balsam season is upon us once more. Thus, it was great to have extra eyes from the staff team of the St James Quarter this afternoon on the Rocheid path. Helping us remove this prolific invader from the river banks and sweep for rubbish. #inns #corporatevolunteering

A morning down at the modern art gallery banks digging up giant Hogweed plants for our ranger team. Over 100 plants were removed to stop their spread on the river.

Water of Leith, Edinburgh

For ever grateful for the dedication of our volunteers. Today, they removed years' worth of litter from a random piece of woodland between the canal & bypass on the Murrayburn tributary. A healthy place left for others to enjoy

A new location for our volunteers doing a clean up of the Murrayburn tributary as it goes under the bypass & canal at Wester Hailes. Plenty of rubbish to be found

Adorable Mallard family on the Water of Leith in Edinburgh's Saughton Park

Green Lacewing (Chrysopa perla) aka Pearly lacewing seen on the edge of woodland along the Water of Leith at Currie. #Insects #Bugs #Macro #Nikon @wolct.bsky.social

Murrayfield

Out for a walk by the Water of Leith I encountered a couple of wee ducks. Cute.

Redbraes weir to Newhaven Rd cleared of rubbish and invasive species, riverflys surveyed beneath the weir and a trim back of the local paths. A very productive morning

A volunteer morning ahead down at Redbraes. We'll be hunting the invasive Giant Hogweed and Himalayan balsam on the river banks. Trimming back path edges and litter picking locally. #MondayMotivation #inns

Chilled out heron, Water of Leith

A satisfying Sunday with our volunteers teaming up with Edinburgh Geocachers to clean up Saughton. Bags & bags of litter collected whilst staff sprayed 100 Giant Hogweed plants. @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social @keepscotbeautiful.bsky.social #INNS

Some weirdly shaped Dryad’s Saddle bracket fungus (Cerioporus squamosus) growing on a Willow 🌳 next to @wolct.bsky.social in Edinburgh 🙏🏾 to @eleanormharris.bsky.social for the ID

A stunning day to be outdoors for the staff team from @scvo.scot in Stockbridge & Dean Village today. With their help we swept the river for invasive species and rubbish, before painting railings and weeding the stairs to round off the day. Many thanks for all the hard work

Scorpion fly (Panorpa sp) seen today along the Water of Leith at Currie. #Insects #Bugs #Macro #Photography #Nikon #Edinburgh #Scotland @wolct.bsky.social

Mayflie emerging along the Water of Leith in today's sunshine. Found lots of sub-imago immature adults clinging to foliage along the riverbank at Currie. These will undergo one more transformation into the final adult or imago that will mate, lay their eggs and die. #Mayflies @wolct.bsky.social

Ice cream was required after our walk along the water of leith

Step 2 of 200 of starting to treat a Giant Hogweed seed source on the Murrayburn that runs into the main river up at Riccarton. You can track our treatment of the river here and also log any sightings you see of INNS - innsmapper.org/map @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social

On my way home. #Leith #Edinburgh

A full morning for our volunteers up at Currie. Whilst half the group trimmed back the walkway edges and litter picked on the walkway. The rest took to the river on the hunt for rubbish and invasive species. Thanks for the help team

Enjoyed my Monday morning wade with @wolct.bsky.social on the Currie stretch of the Water of Leith. Low water level but still slippery in places. Great to get some litter picked whilst a Dipper watched us.

Met a couple of literal Cocks of the Walk tonight in #Edinburgh as Team Mallard went fully entitled about who really owns the Water of Leith walkway @wolct.bsky.social 🦆

Water of Leith yesterday. Pal's camera work.

The Dell is looking anazing just now. Like a temperate rainforest. But by contrast I have never seen so little water in the water of leith. #colintonDell #waterOfLeith #Edinburgh

An exploration wade of the upper reaches of the Murrayburn tributary up at Riccarton. Positive to find a seed source for Giant Hogweed and a leaking sewer so issues can be resolved. Might be years of hard work ahead to resolve all the issues @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social @scottishwater.bsky.social

There's a new brood of cygnets on the Water of Leith at The Shore. They're super cute!

A map of Leith from the early 1500s, centuries before it was unified with Edinburgh. You can see St. Ninian's chapel, which was newly built in 1493. The land where the Scottish Government Office now stands was under water back then, as was the land where the Ocean Terminal shopping centre is now.

Nice stroll out shopping the Water of Leith earlier. Turns out the Canadian Goose isn't alone after all and is nesting. Bonus Eider duck content!

A productive day already for staff from the Edinburgh office of CMS Law on the Bells section. Plenty of work to improve the drainage, a trim back of the walkway edges and some big pieces of rubbish removed from the river.

Another day, another chance to be by the river making a difference. Today we are our out with staff from CMS Law on the Bells section. Plenty of work ahead to refresh the soakaway drains, trim back vegetation, and recover objects in the river.

The Shore, Leith.

We don't usually get Canada geese on the Water of Leith but us but this one has been about for a week or two now

An all action morning with the team from @pingidentity.com down at St Marks in the river and on land. The wading team continued the spring clean of the river and pulled plenty of Himalayan balsam at Warriston. Whilst on dry land the team painted benches and trimmed back the paths in the park.
