I think about the people who have resisted against colonial violence and erasure - and it was not simply about fighting for what you are willing to die for, but fighting for what you are hoping to live for - an expression of love for your people, for humanity, for dignity.

I spoke with Dimitri Lascaris about the #GlobalMarchToGaza. Listen to our conversation here: youtu.be/a0KsYntl5Wc?...

Grateful to have met you Dima Asfour. Please listen to her remarks as the deputy permanent observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations. We must see action now to end genocide and occupation - a comprehensive arms embargo, targeted sanctions, and full support for international justice.

Yesterday in Geneva we held a side event and press conference on health and care workers as defenders of human rights and on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Thank you for your leadership and for providing the space for this dialogue, Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng. But enough words, we need action.

Media advisory: “Genocide as a disease”. On June 25, 2025 we will be holding an urgent press conference in Geneva, Switzerland with UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng on the medical definition of genocide. We are sick from genocide. This genocide must end.

I see in the Palestinian men in Gaza, a reflection of my own father and other men in my life, who care deeply to provide for their families despite all odds. I am heartbroken for them.

Hundreds of people are being massacred everyday by Israel for attempting to get small amounts of food aid set up by American mercenaries. Many are Palestinian men and boys who have survived 20 months of genocide, only to be killed trying to get food for their starving families.

When I returned from #GlobalMarchToGaza, a handful of community members surprised me with a welcome back home - with Palestinian flags, watermelon balloons, and chanting “Free free Palestine!” As we left the airport, bystanders smiled and thanked us. The tide is clearly changing.

Although we were unsuccessful in marching to the Rafah border crossing, we were successful in showing the world that people of conscience from all over the world care deeply about Palestinian human rights. #GlobalMarchToGaza

Journalist: “What’s your message to all other immigrants in this country today?” Mahmoud Khalil: “No one is illegal. No human is illegal. That’s the message.”

The social and political context of Egypt is important to understand. There are tens of thousands of political prisoners, including students, activists, journalists who have attempted to organize in solidarity with the Palestinian people experiencing genocide by Israel.

I have so many thoughts. I’ve been in Cairo, Egypt for the past week now reconnecting with friends and colleagues who are doing amazing work. There is great work happening here in the ground, but nothing feels like enough when the genocide in Gaza continues to intensify.

About to board a flight to leave Cairo, Egypt. And all I can think about is my friend Muhammad in Gaza. “We are here in Gaza. Our dreams and our children's dreams end here.” “Horror. Fear. Hunger. Thirst. Death. We are not okay. I'm sorry to tell you these things. Excuse me.”

I'm pissed! Canadians like @yipengge.bsky.social tried to march to Gaza to break Israel's siege. Despite the odds, the marchers still tried to save lives. That matters. Or it should — but some folks with the largest platforms in Canadian media felt these marchers needed to be dressed down:

One of the major silver linings of the past two years has been meeting and befriending people like Lina Attalah who is editor-in-chief at Mada Masr - one of the very few independent and critical news outlets in Egypt. I am grateful they have covered the #GlobalMarchToGaza.

I spoke with CBC yesterday about the #GlobalMarchToGaza where 4000 people from 80 countries came to Cairo, Egypt to attempt to march to the Rafah border crossing to demand that food and medicines enter Gaza and for an end to the famine and genocide. www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

Over five months ago, we submitted this report to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health. It is titled, “Healthcare Workers as Human Rights Defenders: A Medical Perspective on Israel’s Genocide Enablement Apparatus In Gaza and Abroad”.

It has been 6 weeks since major food distribution centres have been functional in Gaza. As my friend Muhammad puts it, “We are living in a famine in every sense of the word.”

My friend Muhammad texted me this morning: “The problem is that there is no flour and no money, and if there is some flour, it is expired. The crossings are closed. We are living in a famine in every sense of the word. There is no fruit, no milk, and no vegetables, …

The March to Gaza has been called off after a tumultuous weekend that saw Canadians detained and deported, passports taken, and more. I spent my weekend speaking with a marcher, Canadian physician @yipengge.bsky.social, who was there for it all. These people tried -- and that matters:

I found myself crying as I searched for the words to explain how I felt. I am seeing everyday people of this world take risks to do their part in collective responsibility for ending genocide in Gaza. To try is to cultivate hope. We must keep trying. Until Palestine is free.

Update from @yipengge.bsky.social on the whereabouts of the missing Canadian citizen Manuel Tapial, who was leading a delegation of the March to Gaza. He disappeared after being dragged away from his hotel by Egyptian police. Turns out he has now been deported, despite the march breaking no laws.

Muhammad texted me two days ago after the telecommunications came back online in Gaza. He wrote to me, “Hello, my friend, how are you? I always follow you and everything you and your friends do. Thank you all. We seriously don't have food and my children are starving. The situation is unbearable.”

1,854 dead from cholera in #Sudan. Hundreds of thousands more are at risk in refugee camps across Chad. Where’s the media? Where’s the outrage? buff.ly/I6ZRCxd

An update - I want to let you know that Manuel Tapial has been released from detainment and questioning by the Egyptian authorities, after over 24 hours since his initial arrest by plain-clothed police. He was deported from the airport in Cairo, and is on his way back to Canada.
