Times are tough but you can still depend on Pearl Jam.

On Teacher Appreciation Week, shout out to Mr. Hunt, my HS science teacher and academic decathlon advisor. I struggled in science and math but he kept me enthusiastic about learning for learning’s sake.

Always wondered how the bad guys in movies could have so many henchmen. There’s clearly a lot of men chomping at the bit to be henchmen, they just need a little push.

I would like to thank everyone who’s ever forgot to mute themself during a virtual work meeting and then proceeded to say something wildly inappropriate or off topic at full volume. Your diversion is always welcome.

Where can I find more of Bill Hader’s David Lee Roth impression?

No new Tell Me a Story today, but I’d love for you to listen back to this one from two years ago. Adolfo with a powerful story about overcoming challenges and expectations. Its a heavy one, in case you’re not up for heavy today. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

My Facebook DMs are full of fans like Chris Elliot. Know what I do when I get a message like this? I spend the time to track them down and then send the message to their mothers and sisters and daughters. If you’ve got the energy to send this shit to me, I’ve got the energy to out you.

There won’t be a new installment of Tell Me a Story as my next guest fell under the weather unexpectedly. It happens. But check out a previous Tell Me a Story, please. On air with Susan and your favorite classical hits open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

I’m mulling applying to an MFA program. I’d love to hear from anyone who took that path a little later in life (40+). Was it what you hoped it would be? What did you hope it would be?

It’s the small habits that matter, right? zaneewton.substack.com/p/a-personal...

RFK Jr. says there are no autistic poets, so we interviewed one. Hear from Elizabeth McClellan, @popelizbet.bsky.social, an award-winning poet, attorney, and legal educator based in Memphis, Tennessee.

A writing retreat sounds like a beautiful privilege. But I wonder how much I would actually write rather than wander off and do nothing of consequence with no responsibilities for a few days.

I’ve known Sukie as an accomplished, thoughtful university dance instructor, so it was fascinating to hear some of the story of how she got there and how she continues to evolve within the framework of the Dunham Technique. zaneewton.substack.com/p/dancing-in...

It's National Poetry Month, so I'm sneaking a few items into the Title TBD Substack this month in between episodes of Tell Me a Story. Would love for you to swing by and check it out (and even subscribe). open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

Haven’t really found my Bluesky niche yet, so for now it’s just an @izzyewton.bsky.social fan account.

My 14-year-old asks what I do for work. I explained and she said, “That’s boring. You need to quit and start writing a book.” My response about having bills to pay have not been persuasive. She thinks I’m making excuses. Maybe I am.

I’ll be presenting at the ALI Multi-Channel Storytelling for Internal Communications virtual workshop on May 6-7 and wanted to share my discount code. www.aliconferences.com/events/multi...

Is anyone else a little annoyed at all the Senate Democrats on social media applauding Cory Booker for his 25 hour speech? Love him and this was so impressive, but all the other Democrats need to be standing up just like this, not just thanking him for doing it.

✍️ #NaPoWriMo is here with the challenge to write a poem a day! Throughout April, The Poetry Society will be featuring poetry writing prompts created by poets that we've worked with recently through competitions, publications and projects. Today's prompt is from @joedunthorne.bsky.social, (...)

Road tripping with my daughters and their top request was hotel pool swimming and a pizza. Two nights in a row, two different hotels with out of order pools. I appreciate their patience as none of this trip has gone according to plan.

Just a few of the prizes you can win in this West Virginia truck stop’s coin pusher.

All I have to do is add a +2 years and we can celebrate Keavin and antiMusic all over again. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

I’m not thrilled with the news around libraries lately, so just a reminder that I’m on the side of libraries and librarians. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

A new installment of the Tell Me a Story series and it’s a fun one with Becky. Take trip back in time for a tour our nation’s capital back when seatbelts were optional. But one thing remains the same, enterprising mothers will always solve problems. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

A little springtime creeping up in North Carolina.

If we didn’t already have decades of proof of how much of a badass Ann Wilson of Heart is, she’s battling cancer, in a wheelchair, and yet stil sounds amazing on tour.

Do you ever find yourself in a virtual meeting wondering if anybody is alive out there?

Last year I submitted a poem to a contest/journal for the first time and it turned out pretty good. I submitted again to another just now. Working to make this a more than once a year thing.

I’m very close to a subscriber milestone and am here to ask you to join me on Substack. I’m having fun, the storytellers are having fun. I think you and your people might too. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewton

I work in employee comms. I admit it would be a dream to cover a story like this. You may know the story but Doug offers a unique view on this mystery of a stolen multimillion dollar painting, and adds great advice for storytellers about chasing their curiosity. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

Going back to this story by Keiona about her grandmother and how easy it was to see some of my own grandmother in it. Also grateful to know my own kids are blessed with three splendid grandmas. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

As someone who spent his 20s and 30s turning every hobby into some kind of money-making hustle, I’m inspired by people who pursue something just because they love it and want to get better at it, even when they get a late start. John’s story is a perfect example. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

Out here hawking my wares in a new town (Raleigh, NC). Anybody looking for a photographer? Need senior photos before May? I'm available. zaneewtonphoto.wordpress.com/portfolio

A story about sticking with a dream simply because you enjoy the pursuit of it. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...

Sharing again on a Sunday afternoon in case you have a few minutes and love libraries too. open.substack.com/pub/zaneewto...
