Terrific piece from @davidoatkins.bsky.social on the real purposes behind Trump's economic agenda: washingtonmonthly.com/2025/04/08/t...

Trump is trying to create an imperialist self-sufficient manufacturing autarky that invades its neighbors for natural resources. What he will get instead is a Great Depression on steroids.

I can't think of any country that has ever committed suicide like this outside of waging a foolish war. It's unprecedented.

What is happening right now — and adding the bond market crash to the list of issues — is solely a creation of the President of the United States and everyone who enabled him in this foolish endeavor.

Fox News kept telling its viewers that Kamala was the dumb one.

wow the three month orgy of breaking long-standing agreements, abrogating contracts and shredding the constitution has damaged the full faith and credit of the united states that the entire global financial system rests on? might've been a bigger deal that Tim Walz' national guard retirement idk

So from my uniquely weird perspective after living in the UK through Brexit, being in India during Modi's demonetization, and living in Brazil when the real tanked during the Bolsonaro administration, I can confidentally say that Americans do not and can not understand how bad this is going to be.

Every damned word of this 4-graf brief, except “By WSJ Staff,” should scare the bejeesus out of you this morning. www.wsj.com/livecoverage...

Exactly. He’s a malignant narcissist, a narcissistic sociopath, a megalomaniac. It’s all about this. Some of us tried to warn everyone.

I didn't want this. I said something like it would happen, and implored America to take a different path. But a plurality of voters wanted this. Finance and business wanted this, and backed it with money. SCOTUS wanted this, so badly they twisted the Constitution to get it. This all was a choice.

If you believe this, have I got a Bible to sell you.

In any other administration, the president would already be huddled with advisors trying to stave off collapse

All of this could have been avoided if enough people had just decided to vote for a competent Black Indian woman. Racism...the downfall of America.

#ProudBlue #Voices4Victory This is going to devastate our climate & our national environment. It would take centuries to recover our forests.

China just announced 84% tariffs on the US. There is no winner in a global trade war. This isn’t a negotiation, it’s an economic pissing contest that is going to ruin the economies of several nations if people don’t get their shit together.

The Fed didn’t come to his rescue. China didn’t cave. Now he’s begging Congress to bail him out.

The bond market shows capital flight from the United States, with people selling off US debt. It’s the opposite of what usually happens during economic turmoil, when people buy US debt because they think it’s the safest asset in the world. The US-led global economic system is dead. By suicide.

This isn’t a trade war against China and the rest of the world. It’s an economic war against working class America.

"What the U.S. is doing now is not reform. It is rejecting the very system it created." - Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong (April 8, 2025)

The President has chosen to intentionally crash the U.S. economy and financial system by doing things which have been ridiculed in every intro macroeconomics class for the past 80+ years. Those with the power to stop him refuse to do so because they hate minorities.

Good morning. Today is the 80th day that the U.S. President is running a backdoor bribery scheme in which any CEO or foreign oligarch can send him money secretly through his crypto coin scam in exchange for favors. It's the biggest scandal in the history of the Presidency.

Wildfires out west, the Ohio valley getting record breaking rainfall after getting 64+ tornados the previous day, but the convicted felon is pushing COAL mining and reversing course on environmental protection because climate change is just a hoax in his overinflated empty skull.

Expect less and pricier salmon www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/c...

“This does not just affect North Carolina,” Riggs said. “This is like dropping a match in a really dry forest. And if we let this kind of anti-democratic effort take hold, we will not be able to contain it. So this is a fight for the very soul of democracy. Today’s decision was deeply misinformed.”

Again, worth at the last considering the possibility that he’s a malevolent idiot who has no idea what he’s doing.

My law firm is currently litigating 50 voting and election cases in 21 states. I expect new cases will be filed this week. States with the most cases: AZ, GA, NC, NV, FL, LA, PA.

Good day to remember that DOGE has already lost the US government at least half a trillion dollars this year alone. And likely more.

This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.

Welcome to the dumbest administration

This is one hundred percent a case of a man completely obsessed with the idea of tariffs being told "no, bad" by every single smart person around him, and the flip to "it's gonna cause some pain" rhetoric was when they finally got through to him. But his stupid stubborn ego won't let him back down.

When is enough losing before they realize, he doesn’t care!

When we're done with all of this, we should really get rid of: - the two party system - the presidency - the US Senate If we had a parlimentary, multi-party system, we could have elections in months to remove this clearly insane guy from office. Instead, we have to wait almost three years.

Of course paying people to vote or register to vote—via direct cash payments, entrance to a sweepstakes or lottery, or any other material benefit—is criminal, undemocratic, and wrong. Of course it is. Everyone knows that, including the people pretending not to because they want these bribers to win.

While Trump, Putin and Musk go about their work of wrecking world order, fossil fuel continues degrading our natural order. Lowest peak ice ever.

Corrupt judges let a criminal get away with treason and run for president. Propagandists masquerading as journalists lied to enough people that the criminal won. Then the criminal sold a half share in the presidency to the world's richest man, whom no one voted for. That's what happened, folks.

The thing about letting an Australian media tycoon, a South African tech tycoon and a mob-connected Russian asset real estate tycoon run your government is that none of them care about national security, or democracy, or even the broader economy.

Have there been any high-level federal investigations or prosecutions of Republicans since Trump took over? I can't think of any, and don't think there will be any. Crime is legal for Republicans now.

What possible non-treasonous reason would there be for Hegseth to have a Russian email address?

Putin escalating the carving up of the old world order, signaling a sort of sphere-of-influence quid pro quo: the US can have what it wants in Greenland and, the implicit corollary is, I can have what I want with Ukraine www.bbc.com/news/article...

Climate change is the biggest “never too late, best time was before, second best is now.” It’s a gradient, not a switch. The more warming, the worse various risks get. Can’t avoid all risk at this point, of course, but can mitigate them substantially (or not). Complacent doomerism wildly misplaced.

These motherfuckers are going to kill children. I've been saying it for a year, but RFK Jr might as well be a serial murderer. Watch: they'll start vaccine *bans* within a year. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/27/h...

RFK is a eugenics freak first and foremost and everything falls downstream from that. he *wants* excess deaths. he thinks that only the "fit" should survive.

Chicken Comer

His assault on the judiciary continues. SCOTUS gave him a whiff of absolute power last year. He wants it all. No checks. No balances.

It is a sad day for the legal industry. Paul Weiss, didn't just bend a knee, it set a new standard for shameful capitulation. This is a stain on the firm, every one of its partners, and the entire legal profession.

This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first. Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don’t promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair.
