📚 I'm writing a novel set during the American Civil War. Here's a dress from the era. The trim on the shoulders & sleeves are like military stripes & epaulettes. The bands & rosettes on the skirt are like decorations at military ceremonies.

The beautiful bright colour… not so military. 😂
