Most of the time, ocd is profoundly scary. But sometimes, just sometimes, it is extremely funny, like when I walk past a postbox and cant help but panic for a second as I imagine throwing my phone in through the slot.

In the sixth form I was school concert manager. Part of the job involved writing to a list of VIPs inviting them to the Christmas and Summer concerts. Before I sealed each envelope, I anxiously double-checked each letter to make sure I hadn't unconsciously written anything abusive on it.

It's things like this that have caused me to wonder (now in my early 50s, somehow) whether I might have been a bit neurodivergent all along. I'm reading up on ADHD at the moment and it's all sounding horrifyingly familiar.

The thing that convinced me was apparently if you're bright in an academic way the ADHD won't impede you until you reach the point where you can no longer coast, and then you're dumped in a situation where you suddenly can't focus and have never learned how to force focus; and hit a wall.

I've also found focus and time management more difficult since lockdown. I think the stress and workload broke some of my coping strategies, and I've not really felt right since. I had a few months off with burnout in mid-2022, and it's starting to feel like it might be happening again.

Repeated brushes with burnout are apparently another indicator. I've also had more difficulty since lockdown; but in my case I can't tell if it's the lockdown itself or long COVID symptoms.

ahh - ADHD comes co-morbid with various things, OCD is one of them. also some facets of OCD can look very similar to aspects of autism, so the whole thing can get terribly muddy

When I was very small my mum sent me off to the childminder's with some pocket money in one of those old men coin purses. As I ran towards their car I stopped suddenly and the purse flew out of my pocket and ROLLED directly towards the drain. Never stood a chance.
