I pulled up Google Maps on my Samsung Android and you can see my search was for Gulf of Mexico but Google returns the result as Gulf of America.

They have also somehow had time to BOTCH the Finnish pronunciation. The voice used to say "tie" (road) correctly, now it says "tia".

Why don’t compromise and rename it to “Gulf of the Americas”, this whole thing equating America with a few states north of Mexico is already deeply annoying. Similar to Mall of the Americas: below the Mall there is the Gulf!

GoogleMaps is American. They can pronounce Māori place names like Disney characters if they like.
The Rest of the World isn't. They can rename the USA "Disneyland" if they like. 🤷

As a Silicon Valley native, I can tell you, we had natural diversity in the 90’s. The old Google would have fixed that pronunciation - Alphabet is a different story

Everything changed with Thiel and Musk, then the entire VC landscape, then Bezos et al
