To add I don’t think their views on either immigration or climate change are rational. And sadly trying to argue with them using facts and reason just seems to make it worse.

Agreed. Some supporters genuinely won't believe in it due to whatever pseudoscience echo chamber they dwell in. But their aristopopulist leaders know full well that human-driven climate change can't be empirically denied. It's deliberate disengagement from the facts to accommodate their strategy.

Out for a curry with neighbours this week one of them told me he thinks climate change is just naturally occurring variation rather than exceptional and man made. His Facebook “experts” are clearly better informed than the majority of the scientific community

The far/radical right are not motivated by a desire to protect human welfare. They seek to foster economic, societal and environmental chaos that breeds domestic fear for them to exploit for political self-empowerment to advance their extremist and self-serving agendas.

Brexit was a perfect example of this strategy. There was no version of Brexit that improved any economic/public services problems that Leave campaigned on, nor did it reduce migration. We're seeing the results of that, but the radical right have moved onto their next scapegoat - migrants themselves.
