When Giesler, a nasty piece of work, started talking about the female students, saying they shouldn't really waste time in school but become mothers and that if they couldn't find a husband because they were ugly, he'd volunteer some of his men, the students were disgusted.

But even in this nazi society, at a nazi indoctrinated institution, surrounded by nazis, living in a time when the idea that women should indeed just be housewives and not study was actually quite common even among non-nazis, even in this situation, the students protested.

And even when Police officers with truncheons entered the hall and started beating people who were trying to leave the auditorium the students resisted and would not be silenced.

And not just the girls who were forced to sit on the balcony, but also the male students sitting downstairs, many of whom in uniform.
The Gauleiter was forced to end his speech early and leave.
Those detained by police were liberated by fellow students.

The White Rose resistance group deserves its own thread one day.
A small non-violent group that just spread leaflets against the Nazi regime.
They were caught and executed by guillotine.
