I was kinda worried about the skirt missing in the outline. But then the lines all still work perfectly. Damn the skirt just isn't necessary to her character at all is it?
Love a good no-pants design. The sleeveless jacket looks great, those arm and leg warmers are a great extension of the boots and gloves, and a good droopy belt just for aesthetics. I also like how the hammer has a long handle, it looks neat. π
I honestly really like this take on Amy! IMO one of the few times a no skirt or dress look and something more akin to sally and the male hedgehogs actually works for an Amy design and isn't sexualized. The modeling style is also REALLY good , I wish Sega would use a style like this for their models.
the boring answer is that Sally design was made before a lot of the character design rules for the series were codified (basically in this instance: just Girls wear clothes, boys do not) and even further out from when western designers would be privvy to those rules.
so we get oddities like only a vest on Bally but leotard wearing Bunnie, and top wearing Antoine but nude aside from a belt Rotor.
and thats not even getting into the weirdness of some of the comics only characters, like Nic or Sir Connrey
There where several characters in the Archie comics dressed like that & in the late 90s through the late 2000s people would draw Sonic OCs with that type of outfit all the time.
I think since 2013 there's actually a mandate from Sega that it can't be done & people have grown up with that now.
The funny thing is, allegedly there's a contrasting mandate that male characters can never be depicted wearing pants or in any other clothing on their lower body. Tops that hang lower than the lower body seem to be fine, but no pants.

SONIC IN PANTS
Crash "Sonic's Ass Game" Bandicoot
it reminds me of Sonic boom's sonic design except less edgy and more well put together!!
I'd love to see a version of this idea with the sonic CD styled amy!!
I think it'd be neat if she did a cool spin attack with the hammer.

Make Sonic wear pants
