Still not clear to me how closely the version they're releasing at the end of this month matches the lost one they announced in 2009 (and that Wikipedia said they did a bit of location testing for in 2015)

I remember the location test they did! They had a TGM4 cab at R1 puente hills mall in 2015, it didn't have "tetris" anywhere on it so I figured it was some rights issue that it took this long

I'm definitely curious how much the mechanics may have changed. From the screenshots I've seen, the backgrounds are pretty much the same as the ones shown in 2009/2015 - it's *visually* very close, if nothing else.

Looking it up yeah, the backgrounds from the 2009/2015 version are right in the Steam version, along with very similar anime girl silhouettes and similar UI.

The visual style seems pretty much the same. They added more preview pieces, and moved the top preview. They also changed the font. The logo too.

Other than that, most of the game modes seem to have been redesigned.
