If Newsom is learning anything from this (big "if", I know), he shouldn't be just "criticizing" Trump's order. He should be exercising his Lawful Right to assert the command of the California National Guard, and order them to stand down and stay put at their bases.

I never liked Newsom. Trump has zero authority to overtake a states National guard forces. Legally, all he can do is ask the Gov to deploy those forces. But Newsom won't say a thing, because that involves having a spine.

There are many legal prohibitions on the things happening here, but Trump has packed the supreme court, and they're making up entirely novel (and internally inconsistent) law to simply declare each new thing he does is suddenly legal. Bulldozing the existing law to make this possible

That's what's broken the American spirit. We're no longer (if we ever were) playing a game with rules and referees. Everyone on both sides believes that Trump has, by capturing the Supremes, defeated the concept of The Law itself, so everyone is acting like the written word of the law doesn't matter
