Likes gets used in different ways by different people, but all those get condensed to the concept of "like". Did I like it because I agree with the viewpoint? Because they're my IRL friend? Am I just bookmarking it for later? That nuance all gets flattened into a public record for weaponization.
I see, thanks. A follow-up question: are private "amplification likes" technically possible on Bsky? If we assume "like" to mean "I want my followers to be more likely to see this", the algorithm needs to be able to see it. On Bsky, "the algorithm" is whatever someone made a feed to be.
yes there are common feeds that are based on things that your followers like. but you can have systems where the algorithm knows who liked a thing but anyone but the person who posted it does not.
I've liked things that I think other people would not like that I've liked, but I like to think that liking what I like is like, not that big of a deal.
Is a like a vague boosting of support, or is it an amplification? When there's only one reaction, what does like mean? Likes are intended to be the lowest friction/effort method of interaction, but they reveal an awful lot.
