It's not that it's such an amazing thing never to happen before, it's that having something like this be pretty decent is a really good thing to have around and enjoy while you've got it :)
Come on man, let's go old days Twitter. Post some sick clothes. An article about some tech thing contrasted to your writing. Some futuristic art. Let's get nuts
I always thought it hilarious, for how classic an opening line it is, that in the beginning evening years has become a complete anachronism as now a dead channel is the blue of no digital signal, Where in 1981 it would have been that salt and pepper chaos of the uhf band spectrum, confusing…
This is my go-to example when describing the perils of context-free interpretation. Someone born in ‘94 might reasonably assume the skies over Chiba City were a lovely shade of blue, not the black-on-gray ant races I grew up with. Neuromancer is 40 years old. It only gets worse from there.
Thanks for your amazing books. Sparked my love for reading, technology cyberpunk and political activism! Also inspired my handle (over 35 years ago now). Glad you’re here along with some of my other favorite authors!
For me, once it had the critical mass of news vector people, my key use case, then having that without the vicious slime culture of Twitter was really refreshing.
Also, avoiding the constant barrage of notifications for subscribing to premium or using Grok. The temporal lack of ads is a plus (that will inevitably change as the platform needs monetization, but I take it for now).
I joined Twitter a decade ago primarily because you were raving about it. I am inordinately happy that you are here now. Can you convince Cory to sign up?
It's like the best parts of what Twitter used to be, before Elon and the trolls and ragers ratio got so out of hand. It's not like real life here anymore. It's like fighting gale force winds every day just to meet some nice people and talk to them. Bsky's quieter and the decency ratios are different
It's fun. It's what I liked from Twitter but the people are much friendlier. Even when we disagree people at least treat you like a person instead of hurling slurs.
A place that has a thread with @paolobacigalupi.bsky.social, @greatdismal.bsky.social and @scalzi.com in it...must be a good place! total fan;) Jeff Noon is missing, though.
Please do - I've even deleted my old trolling account from that other platform that was used just to track your tweets! Please more over this way @greatdismal.bsky.social :-)
For me it sank in as soon as I saw the news breaking and realized this is the place for breaking news that Twitter used to be, especially with TweetDeck, before Musk broke it. Now I fully share their enthusiasm.
For the moment, when I dipped into this doorway, the sprawl quieted. my nano-dermals stopped tingling, as if they weren't needed anymore. My ICE meters weren't even reaching yellow-line indicators. A casual glance even showed this bar just wanted to be let be...and they'd fight to keep it that way.
Massively interconnected world where there's money to be made breaking into accounts and stealing money and information? Governments and other civil groups hiring digital mercenaries to disrupt data? Massive wealth disparity with new royalty in orbital cities while most starve?

What's new?
I like this place because "Bluesky", obviously, is named after the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.
Neuromancer is my favourite book <3
Block, do not reply, do not give their hatred oxygen.
The most interaction you should give is reporting them to Bluesky Moderation.
Really stuck in my head.
Thanks for such a great book!
Thanks
Wondering if Jack used the same Aunties here from that era
👍🏽
TL:DR in hindsight there was no point *facepalm*
