I usually cut them back after they've bloomed. Otherwise, they sure drop a lot of seeds. Prefer them to remain as 4 or 5 distinct clumps.

They are basically an annual here. It’s too cold for them to overwinter.

That's interesting. Ours are hardy to -25C. Are yours a different species? Ours were small, potted plants when I first planted them.

Just checked. L. spicata is hardy zone 3-9. We're in 5A/5B in the Okanagan.

I buy bulbs from Veseys every year. I plant them, they grow, they flower, and because they’re so cheap I don’t mind that I have to plant more every year.

I had no idea the bulbs were so big. Order some stuff from Veseys, too. Just had a look at the catalogue. You'd think they'd survive winter if planted deep enough. Whatever works! Ours have been overwintering for over 15 years now. Our garden is about 95% perennial.

Now I'm wondering if I originally planted bulbs. Ha. 15 years was a long time ago. Still have the plant tag!
