I wonder if this takes them out on Tucker, though. Losing Cortes means they have less pitching depth to deal from and thus losing Gil would make things a bit dicier.

But maybe not, Cole/Fried/Rodón/Schmidt would still be a pretty great 1-4 (assuming nobody gets hurt).

I truly believe Kyle Tucker is one of the best baseball players in the world and I would bite the bullet on Gil with this window closing soon. Fried helps me stomach that.

They could also sign Burnes. To hell with it.

Of the players the Astros let walk* - Springer, Correa, Morton, Verlander, potentially Bregman - Tucker is the one you really need to extend, and it just won't happen. Every piece of his skill set is likely to age well.

(* - not counting Cole, who was obviously never considering staying)

Yep, I'm also totally on-board with trading Gil in a Tucker trade even w/o Cortes still being around as a depth option. He's the kind of player you have to jump on if you have the opportunity. He's pretty much a perfect fit!
