The inner workings of NATO can partially be understood as a cargo cult: Europeans perform mystic rituals (acquiring expensive, magical equipment) to keep the mighty people from beyond the ocean engaged on our landmass. Now the magic has stopped delivering. The gods are turning their backs on us.
