Not irrelevant - the US is and will be still to powerfull to be irrelevant in economics, military and political terms. But more like a great power and no longer a superpower.

Miles off reality, China is going to chase them down the rabbit hole - maybe even overtake them. China's demographic and economic armageddon is inevitable; the US OTOH could, conceivably, rescue itself, after all the self immolation has been a choice!!!

They are going to have to thread the eye of a needle to pull it off but they might manage it so long as they can balance the internal frictions with the externals (cannibalise rU and keep the EU on side) The US might just have done them a favour.
