I think the best place it could stop post CRL would be Maungawhau, which I think would make a good long distance station until we build up more regional capacity. The old West line platforms will otherwise only be lightly used post-CRL, and regional trains can layover on the sidings at Morningside
Interesting. Yeah, just thought Te Wai Horotiu would make sense if it follows the same path but I knew real transit nerds would know or have better suggestions haha
Te Waihorotiu would be impossible - electric only and too busy with two main lines going through there, no terminating platforms. And while Waitemata will retain two terminus platforms (initially for Pukekohe Express services), it's also electric only - the diesel vent system was decom'd and removed
Which basically leaves the appropriately named Strand(ed) station, or Maungawhau. Altho I don't think there's any official plans (at least not yet) to make this kind of use of Maungawhau.
oh btw the new scheduled arrival time at Strand is 8:30 so you were only eight minutes early. Still a good run! I expect Te Huia will become popular with Pukekohe commuters travelling at the right time, who are ok walking/connecting from there, as the train is faster and more comfy
