I think its due to songs being the only outlet available for getting the subversive word out to a large audience in those days, but that landscape has changed significantly since then.

I think a lot of the 60s/70s bands we are probably both thinking of were part of the counterculture. Today, the big bands are mainstream and sell ads. Smaller bands might do something. I wish Kendrick could spend even half the energy on Trump as he used on Drake.
