I personally focus on natural speaking voices and acting/delivery. If someone's reel is all anime style dialogue and delivery, I can't tell if they'd be a fit for me. Nothing against it, but my games are not that style. I'd recommend having some straight acting takes in the reel always.
From the hiring perspective, I'm looking for actors. A lot of VAs will show a range of voices and a lot of simple dialogue. Many think just talking into a quality mic is enough, but you're all actors just like on screen, so I am looking to hear it. Hope this is helpful somehow!
