Freedom of speech means that the government can't prevent you from expressing yourself. It does not protect you from the consequences of what you say or do. xkcd by Randall Munroe. https://xkcd.com/1357/

Freedom of Speech doesn't begin and end with the US constitution. It is okay to want to have more robust rights that the bare minimum protected by the US constitution.
Yup crashing other people’s party, telling them stuff they don’t want to hear makes you an asshole,
Just ask Socrates.
I’m here, being a fucking asshole, because you people are the reason cheetolini came back for round two and you deserve to smell it as often as possible. I came in that door.
This is primarily true, except if you make false extreme claims that cause mass panic and disrupt general public, like screaming out "Fire!" When theres no fire and nothing being fired. That one is a main one cause people react the most to the term fire than to r*pe and other things.
The person who falsely shouts "Fire!" in a crowded room, who causes harm to the people injured in the resulting stampede, is, under US law, indeed liable for the harm they have caused. Freedom of speech should be applied as broadly as possible, but it is not absolute.
Cognitive dissonance ,the mental pain victims of propaganda feel when proved wrong, makes the right call fact checking "censorship". Nobody supports the right except the wealthy and sociopaths without belief in a false reality.
Yep. Something that confuses people on both the "Left" and the "Right."
The First Amendment isn't there to police the opinions you detest, it's there to protect you from the people who have those opinions when they get into power.
Not sure I agree with that, the 1st amendment clearly is not about police-ing or protecting from opinions you dislike. It is more about saying anything you want and understanding not all will agree, but respect both ways by not interfering with others.
I remember posting this to a guy who went *deep* down the rabbit hole even before the Trump years and he was screaming about freedom of speech conspiracies involving *an anime convention* of all things, and I finally got fed up and just posted this meme. He was *SO ANGRY WITH ME*.
The problem comes in when people telling the truth get treated as assholes and are shown the door. Maybe we need a truth litmus test. And truth is never one-sided. And we need to be able to admit when we're just spitballing; like I am now.
It can be! For example, climate change is happening. Vaccines don't cause autism. 1+1=2, and gravity is correlated to mass.
The thing about truth is it doesn't have to fit any parameters aside from not being self-contradictory to be true.
I hear you, but your math equation is not one-sided. On the left you have 1+1, and on the right you have 2, and bless the little equal sign in the middle, because that's how we can make sure nothing is one-sided like a free radical. 🟰
Well limited to speech directed at the govt. Im protected on a soap box in a public park an when tell everyone how bad the city-wide and mandated trash service is and say vote out all the council members ASAP. But I can get in trouble for directing it at private citizens also threats are a no no.
But, and this is critical... no one has to listen to you.
At all.
They can simply avoid you.
Musk is trying to break that with his "Advertiser conspiracy" nonsense, trying to force companies into speech he wants. Advertising on his platform in this case.

You can have your soap box on the street corner, just don't expect anyone else to supply the soapbox, or indeed have to listen to you.

I'm not sure you guys get how free speech works anyway, because Demo☭rats are always trying to ban it.
There's no point protecting popular opinion
However, what does bear protection is the minority opinion.
When reframed this way, there is no p as paradox.
