Such an amazing era of Disney animation, seemingly open to a variety of new styles. If you don't mind me asking, what was the process like for choosing the style for Hercules?

The directors wanted a cartoon, graphic style. They hired English Illustrator Gerald Scarfe. He sketched several designs and it was the bases of the style. (And classic Greek design). We then designed our own characters for animation. (Gerald said he had a hard time drawing females).

Hand drawn animation really has so much more depth to it, compared to modern CGI, and these sketches really shows it. Much has been lost, such a pity.
