I always held back from posting & commenting over there because of all the negativity (though I gotta say, the dev community was almost always a bright spot). But here on Bluesky? It feels so cozy that I'm not overthinking every interaction anymore.

So much this. Engaging on Twitter used to be not terrible, and that alone was really cool. Then things deteriorated over time.

Here it's been an awesome experience from day 1.

My first experiences include engaging with some of the biggest accounts around, having meaningful exchanges.

I think that if this properly scales, we may be able to take some of our discussions in Discord out of that caves and into the open here so there are more folks to help and interact with. Let's see how things will evolve, but it is great so far, that's for sure.

That's an interesting thought. Discord can be good for some things, but I think that information is difficult to find for several reasons, and decays quickly (partially due to poor discoverability). Bluesky is kind of the opposite in that regard.

I don't know what it was, I also stopped replying. And I did feel safe. I think it was more the feeling that I was mainly seeing marketing stunts and I don't want to engage with that. Because visibility and engagement isn’t ruled by shady algorithms, and seeing all kinds of people interacting with each other pushed me to do it more too. It feels like a proper « social network » 😌

This is exactly how it was for me - I thought I was just a lurker by nature, but no! Maybe social media wasn't really the problem, maybe these common spaces got destroyed, perverted or diminished just like irl and we got trapped in profitable, addictive, but deeply antisocial online environments?

Surely was a lurker before. In many posts I thought of commenting but backed out, just because of fear. Fear of bashing, waste of energy, unnecessary rage. And that has been the experience in all the social media. So far here everyone feels like chilling like in a beach vacation or neighborhood cafe

the main reason initially was the lack of confidence in vite from people who were used to our old build process of grunt/requirejs and related tools.
we finally did manage to move ahead but then got stuck on getting approval for getting the whole app tested to ensure nothing's different

Influencers going to influence, grifters going to grift, and so on... no matter where we go. But as you say, it should be a lot less effective here because they can't micro-optimize to appeal a single global algorithm. Discover is already a lot healthier here, and everyone will use different feeds.
