If you like science fiction, James Tiptree Jr’s short stories are fantastic but can be very dark. There is a good collection called Her Smoke Rose Up Forever. Very different but also excellent are stories by Ted Chiang.
I've read two George Saunders short story collections "CivilWarLand in Bad Decline" , and "Liberation Day". I enjoyed both immensely, but most of the stories are, for want of a better word odd. Also for classic sci fi you can't beat Ray Bradbury's short story collections like "The Illustrated Man".
I’m re-reading Fahrenheit 451 this year, so may have to check out his short stories too, thanks! I’ve heard the name George Saunders but never read him!
I love short stories myself. Some of my favorites are Nine Stories by JD Salinger, 21st Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, and The Wine-Dark Sea by Robert Aickman.
