Institutionalization is already in affect here in B.C. .. it just doesn’t look like a compound! The social services system is still the old institutional way of doing things! No new ideas, just the old system… you can put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig!!

Yes. I agree. But for a VP at CLBC to say publicly that that is the outcome is a way of silencing self-advocates and their allies.

Threatening the return of institutionalization will not help people speak up. This is one of the biggest fears of self-advocates. And for Minister @sheilamalcolmsonbc.bsky.social to say she hasn't heard complaints, well, that speaks volumes about her lack of engagement with self-advocates & families

Re-introducing institutionalization for people with intellectual disabilities should never be used as a stick to keep people in line. I know reporters can pick and choose clips from interviews but these words should never be said at all, especially by someone in a position of power.
