I don't think we could preserve the current level of material welfare that way. Growth happens on surplus, and we're working so much to provide that for those in control of the resources. Also think of the global context where that 2-day week would probably feed on surplus from the global South.

Using growth as an argument is already a capitalism-inherent way to look at it. This whole "company XYZ made the same profit as last year, let’s downrate it" is one of the biggest issues with the whole system.

But in general it's insanity. Anyone can run the calculation on, let's say, five thousands years of growth at 2-3% 😬 So luckily it's not a matter of opinion, we will hit the ceiling sooner or later.

Yes, I completely agree. I've been thinking this about a lot regarding for an example the company I work for. Of course we could share the profits, but currently they're almost completely put into further investments. So if we were a co-op, the company should trust the owners to lend this.
