The thing is, though, that most of Trump's support is based on hatred. Hatred of immigrants, hatred of trans people, hatred of Dems, etc. Left-wingers and Dems have tried repeatedly to build bridges and get spit in the face. I think many people are just fed up and want to fight fire with fire.

Problem is all the things he's done that have been on display for all to see... The crimes, the lousy people he associates with, the threats, the hate speech. That's all harder to look past. And all apparently part of his 'appeal'.

Then what? That's the end of that person's road. They'll just dig deeper into their beliefs. Your high-minded insults won't change Trump's minds, but they will make sure that a lot of folks will just disengage entirely. It's counterproductive.

Think about the convoy. They were able to turn that feeling of being hated by everyone else into an entire movement. Just because they were eager to play the victim, and a bunch of folks were eager to play right into it.

I'm mixed on this, because deradicalization is important, but it's also time consuming, and often very fraught, and honestly the only reason I think we're even discussing whether we "need to convert right wing voters" is because of fptp.

I truly do not think anyone is getting them back. They have been gone for many, many decades. Being nice or even civil to them comes off as weak. They only know “attack” and “victim”. That’s it
